Order your custom discs now!

After September 10th, all songs published before 2008 will NO LONGER be available from Sound Choice's Custom CDG site!!!

I just ordered a disc today!

I asked customer service what was going on and he said that the company that SC sold its back catalog to is scr*w#ng them and refusing to renew SC's license for the rights to the back catalog.

There is a notice stating the songs will no longer be available on the home page of the custom disc site.

Snooze and lose!

Heck I don't think they'll have much worth ordering after this...

Absolutely crazy....why would they sell the rights away to these discs to start with? That's what they built their reputation on!

So does anyone know who has the rights to them, and if they will still be available through the other company to the average karaoke singer?

I've thought about making a run out to the karaoke shop for a last gasp custome disc, but the hour is late......

Rights are with Stingray Music aka The Karaoke Channel. The songs they sell on their download site have the terms and conditions that they cannot be used commercially. They sell them either as MP3 with no graphics or MP4 (ipod) or WMV (zune) video files. You can also find the MP3 versions as downloads on amazon. They use amazon web services to provide the back end for their store.

Sound Choice were idiots for selling the catalogue in the first place! Serves them right, although I hate the fact that it affects me like that. What a dumb move!

This was offered as an explanation on the SC forum by SCAdmin:

"We are only removing Sound Choice back catalog songs from the Custom CDG site. We are actually planning on re-licensing and re-releasing some of our most popular back catalog CDGs which had been discontinued. Since Custom CDG sales "steal" sales from prerecorded CDGs, we are making this move. Plus, we are working on a digital download option where many of the back catalog songs will be available. However, the publishers will not allow the use of downloaded songs in a commercial venue, so we have to bring back CDGs for the use by KJs in their shows. Sounds crazy right? We don’t make the rules; we just try to come up with solutions within the limitations of our licensing."

I was told something a bit different today by a SC customer service rep, so who knows what the real full story is...

Same baloney, different day. They never had a license to download in the U.S.-EVER. That's why they moved the download site to Australia. That is is also the ONLY place they are LICENSED to download. If you download here, licensing is YOUR responsibility. Good luck.

Are you talking about their Custom CDG site? Or do they have a download site in Australia?

This stance taken by Sound Choice will just make those pre loaded hard drives even more attractive to the average karaoke buff. If Sound Choice won't sell them, someone will try to fill the void.

This thread should be removed since it is promoting that people get to the Sound Choice custom cdg site & buy product!

Isn't this against karaokescene rules?

Aren't YOU Mr Sunshine!

Actually I have no vested interest in SC, just thought folks should know so they're not disappointed later...

Don't take it personal Tad but there seems to be a double standard here at karaokescene.

Please know Tad that I perfectly understand that your intentions are honest & sincere. My intentions on the threads I started had the same character of integrity regarding the subject matter I was posting about. I have been riddiculed by many here at karaokescene. I in no way think that you are malicious in your thread about the SC custom cdg site & that you are just trying to pass on information. That is all I was doing about my subject but my stuff gets removed because people complained it was spam just because they didn't want to hear it.

My understanding is that promoting the sale of, or joining of anything is against the rules here. People have accused me of being a schill for SC, so here I am now complaining that these sort of threads should not be allowed. A thread on new Zoom karaoke was recently removed.

So I'm calling on karaokescene to practice a fair "rotation", if you would, by following their own guildlines instead of being selective of what is seen. That's all....

Well you shouldn't get your panties in a wadd because you've had a topic removed. I've had a couple of mine removed as well. Wasn't too pleased about it either.

But the public pouting and hijacking of other topics is unbecoming on your part. You're just alienating the people you are trying to talk to here. Tone it down...

All rules and laws are "selective". Otherwise they'd be too hard to live with...

I don't disagree with you one bit Tad. Every thread I started was hi-jacked into anti-POOP retohric everytime. I'm just making the point of the double standard. I'm sorry I had to hi-jack your thread to make a point. I won't comment further about it on this thread.

BTW, it will be nice to see Sound Choice finally putting stuff out to download. This is a long time coming for sure....
