Now how the heck were you shut out and why?
not to anyones' chagrin i suppose! Me thinks because i changed my email address. The forum asked me to update it, but when i did it wouldn't take and then wouldn't let me log back in....pain in the arse!
So i waited a few days and after a long night of shows i decided to just get in, so the quickest way was to sign under a different user name.
I pm'd Lonnie about it and am waiting to see if he, as moderator, can integrate the two, or i don't care, delete the old one and i'll start all over again. But i could use points to get an avitar if anyone wants to donate points.? Aloha!

And thanks Cue for answering my cost question on your discs. $41 a disc sounds very reasonable. I think i'll look into SBI since it's getting the green light from everyone.
Karen i always appreciate your posts. very centered and very informative.

Well, after 2 weeks of waiting, I just received my order (6 discs). They are completely unplayable... on every song track, the word-swipes are garbled, and as the song/s progress from screen to screen, they get worse. I don't understand it. When they (accidently) sent me the links to download the songs (on my 1st order), I was curious, so I downloaded 10 of the 27 songs I had originally ordered. These songs came out perfect when I burned them to a disc (to see what they looked like).
Has anyone else here order physical discs from SBI and experienced the same problem, or have you all just ordered downloads?
I sent an e-mail complaining of this a few minutes ago, so I'll let you know what the resolution is.

That's odd. I have 9 of their custom discs now & every one play fine. I did have one track the opening screen only was a little garbled, otherwise the song played fine.

Did you order from the SBI site or Selectatrck? We did have ONE out of many Selectatrack discs arrive totally garbled but they sent a replacement immediately. SIX sounds a bit disturbing. I know SBI is putting out two different formats on their songs so they can go video but I don't know if that would make a difference as far as what you got.

Seems like they may be using a bad burner or just trying to burn them at too high a speed

Also, I know it's not a compression of data issue, because time-wise, I think the most that was compiled on a single disc was 61 minutes. I remember when I first started to burn discs from my personal library for myself, I used to fit as much as I could of the 74 minutes allotted. What I found out as a result was, that because of that, it caused the words to garble on other people's players. When I re-burned those discs, I left more free space on the disc, and this fixed that problem. Now, I don't use more than 65 minutes on a single disc.

If you burn them at 1X, it takes the same amount of space on the disc as if you burn them at 52X but as the disc is spinning much faster to burn at 52X; the sub layer , where the graphics are , can't seem to handle the flow of data as well as the music level can.

I was referring to a totally different issue when I mentioned the amount of time recorded/burned onto a disc (one that is not an issue in this case).
Thanks BFFL... What you wrote seems to make sense. There is another issue that I had (in the past) with faster speed burns... When done at a faster speed, my player couldn't read the index of the disc, and I have to set my player into NORMAL mode as vs Karaoke mode (where it would stop at the end of each track instead of continuing to the next track), in order for it to play the song selected.

I received a response back today....
Thanks for your email. It seems strange that you are having problems playing all the discs. We will re-send again tomorrow and hopefully these will work. All discs are tested in use a consumer CDG player as well as Power Karaoke Player on PC, and all played ok. We will get these out tomorrow and you should get these in a couple days.

I received the replacement discs in the mail yesterday, and they are displaying the same problem. I wrote back to SBI, and described the symptoms. I also told them that I have not had any problems playing any of my discs in the machine, or any discs that I may have burned from my library. I have also run a cleaning disc in the machine, and everything else plays perfectly. The model I own is the JVC XL-MV303. This is the response I got.....
This seems rather strange as these were also tested again and no problems reported. As mentioned we test using a consumer CDG player and Power Karaoke's Player. Would it be possible to get the make and model of your Karaoke Player? There is a distinct possibility that your player does not like our discs, though we have been using Verbatim for a long while now and had no previous problems. We can send you a batch of new discs pre-labeled and we will email you the files as mp3+g's via YouSendIt grouped by Disc # and you can author the CDG yourself? If you hang onto the inlay track info we will send you a new set of blank discs pre-labeled. How does that sound?

Have you tried them anywhere else? Maybe your player just won't read them? Just seems weird.

I would try to make a copy of the discs that they sent you on a CDR brand that you usually use and see what happens with that disc in your karaoke player. I've run into some problems with JVC/RSQ players when it comes to playing some of my burned discs cleanly. It seems that those players are fussy about what speed the discs are burned at. Someone actually told me that he has better luck burning discs at a faster speed to get them to play "cleaner" on a certain KJ's JVC player. Whatever speed SBI is using may just not be compatible with your machine. Send the discs to me and I'll see if they work in my Pioneer player. LOL I promise not to copy them. LOL
I will say one thing about SBI....They seem to be doing everything possible to make you a satisfied customer. The best idea may be for them to send you a pre-labeled blank disc and let you burn the tracks onto it yourself.

Wow! If only every company was as diligent with customer support as they seem to be!
Good luck with tracking and solving the problem.

I was on mp3gmusic.com the other day and I see most of the munu's you talk about on this thread there. But I also saw a cavs download site there too. Has anyone used these newer cavs downloads or are they just remarketed music from another manu. While I was on there I also saw the karaoke channel (Sound Choice) and was wondering if anyone knew if this music is for private home use or can be used commercially.

I didn't take them out with me to try on someone else's machine. That would possibly be wasting valuable show time for everyone there (assuming the discs are no good on any player).

I didn't think to try that. I already mailed the discs back to them (all 12 now).
Yes, I agree... They are definitely showing a good effort to keep me as a satisfied customer. That is why I am sharing all of this here.
