Hello everyone! THis is my first post.

Is it bad etiquette to bring in my own karaoke CD to the KJ? Would the KJ be insulted or would the audience think it's arrogant?

Thank you!

Depends on the kj, but I for one encourage people to bring their own discs, mainly because I may not have or feasibly be able to pick up their song.
Most kj's won't have a problem unless their own ego gets in the way & they don't want to admit they don't have "everything".

I've never had a problem with a KJ about using my own discs as long as they are all originals, the KJ's don't mind. Some like Lonman welcome them and actually encourage it. However, I solve the uneasiness problem thus: If I go to a venue that I have not been to before or where nobody knows me, I use the KJ's book for my first song, then take my own discs up. As far as the audience goes, don't worry about it. Chances are nobody will notice. And if you look you will see a lot of them do the same.

Norm,
that's the big item, is it the "original" or a copy? I for one will allow anyone to use their own cdg, as long as it's an original (and as long as I don't already own that original myself). The same goes for receptions/parties that I dj... I'm more than happy to play a song off of someone's cd as long as it's the original. More than likely, I already have the song and don't need their cd. There's always a few weird songs that pop up, though.

Will,

I know about the wierd songs thats why I carry my own. LOL ... Seriously though, you've articulated very well on the reasons I stressed original in my reply.

No problem here either. Heck, I've even let someone bring in an audio CD from their car to sing along with because I didn't have a song they were looking for!

If someone brought in a DVD and wanted to sing Hakunah Matada with Timon and Pumbaa, I got no problem with that either. If it plays in my machine, I'll spin it!

frankly as long as your disc plays and does not skip, I'll play it, and have no problems doing it. I use working Backups in my CD case all the time..... I cannot afford the risk of loosing an entire library, or a CD that is out of production.

When i go out, you can bet that every CD I bring is a copy, I DO NOT TRUST MY ORIGINALS TO ANYBODY!!!

No matter how careful somebody is, a CD will get scratched. When i get a new CD, before i even play it, it takes a trip to the CD copier, then back in it's jewel case and into the file cabinent, the original never once being played..... When my working backup starts to develop some scratches or problems, i just destroy the CD and then make another backup

If you come to a show i am running, bring whatever you like, I'll play it

I don't have a problem with people bringing in their own CDs. It amazes me however, how many people will put them up "unprotected" - no case or sleeve. Prefer one at a time.

I suprised how many just bring up the CD and hand it to me. I always have several empty jewel cases handy to put them in along with a sticky to put their name on. If they don't pick it up immediatly after their song I'll take it to their table (still in a jewel case) to return it to them.

Most people just bring the cd's in a folder case. I found a cd holder at the $ store that holds up to 10 individual cd's w/o cases. This has worked out nicely.
Also have a disclaimer that I will play any disc, however I nor the club will be held responsible for damaged, lost or stolen discs. Also any disc left in our possession over 30 days remains our property.

YES, that includes me... sometimes when i am flying solo, i am having to shuffle around 3 to 4 CD's.... trying to call up singers, read the slips, pull the discs, re-sleeve the CD's, re-file the CD's in the case. When i am DJing, it can get worse, cause i have songs that i want to play, and sometimes it is easier to grab the CD than to go to the PC and cue it there.

I do keep box of extra pro-sleeves. I do not like the paper sleves that some singers like to bring their CD's up in

Yeah you gotta learn to trust yourself before you can trust another. It does get better, keep coming back. We will trust you until you can learn to trust yourself......

I don't mind when singers bring in their own cd's . originals or copies I'll play them as long as they are in good condition. I would suggest that all singers bring them on some sort of case or sleeve.....

Well, if you can stand one more, I'm one that encourages folks to use their own CD's, mainly because they're assured of already being familiar with that particular arrangement. I use copies to protect my investment, so I don't have a problem using one of their copies.

Here's one for ya.. New Show, New Bar, & NEW KJ.
This guy won't be in Business long.

I brought an ORIGINAL CD+G to a show the other night.. The KJ says maybe you shoulda brought a burned one. I asked him why?
"So I could have used steel wool on it.. :withstupid:I don't like my customers to bring in CD+G's, It's like I don't already have enough music in the book."
Then he rambled off a number of titles of to me. :withstupid:
OK.. So, I gave him a grin and went out to the back seat of my truck and brought in my master book, :ggof: showed it to him as it was 6 times the size of his, and told him to Eat it took my book and my CD+G and left.

Next Bar.
:reddevil:
