Angel.
Out of curiosity.
Would you have a night out to see a good singer.
Or.
Would you have a night out to have a good time.

Yes. I must have been.
I have just come home from a NOT local karaoke.
I picked it deliberatly because it's a place where if you're not "IN" they ignore you.
I sang my first karaoke song ever.
Don't laugh.
It was... Don't laugh...
In my best Cockney accent I sang Oomp Pah Pah from Oliver.
Storm the place. No they ignored me.
Except for one table who joined in.
The KJ didn't even know he had the song. Pocket songs.
Shows you what get when you buy a hard drive.
Any way I am going to buy that disc. Just for me.
They said there was nothing wrong with my voice.
Maybe... Just maybe...

It would be very interesting if all of us on this forum did what you did - in fact, I may just do that tonight. Thanks for doing that.

Since i work steady my days off are too few. If i would go out to karaoke it would be to sing. But since there aren't any other systems around that i would sing on, i stay home. I ruined myself by having and being the best.

Here's an idea, let's send Bruce to Angel's song and let him write a review!

Well Angel (Bigdog)
I guess when you are so good it must be difficult to be entertained by mere mortals.
It seems being the best does have it's price.

My show is not about having "good singers". My show is about having fun. My loyal customers come back to me and follow my show from venue to venue for that reason. No pressure, just fun.

My show is. I have a niche market unlike any other around. That's my claim to fame. Great sound from a great system that i know how to run. Making even the not so good sound good and the good sound great. No pressure, just fun and lots of compliments about the singers and the sound.

The dog and snake insults are getting old already.

Not an insult. BigDog was someone who used to be on this forum.
Had a great sense of humour.

...and sidewinder was only mentioned once. Let's not forget the  one too.

...and they're NOT getting old. they're quite fun and IT'S YOU that keeps promoting their egotistical and holier-than-thou attitudes. very delusional as one put it so eloquently.

To tell the truth, i didn't mind sidewinder. he made good points often and made people here think. He WAS frustrating but MADE YOU contemplate his points and could be funny at times.

Hmm....Come to think of it... I don't think YOU are him anymore lol.....

Actually Bigdog wasn't ALWAYS wrong or alone in his thinking. I remember a time frame during which he, and Lonman and many others insisted that the MOST important element in putting on a good show was the equipment. Accordingly the same people delcared that you were not likely to succeed unless you invested the most that your budget could posible accommodate on said equipment.

This thread reveals that most posters now realize that it is the personality and hosting skills of the KJ that are of primary importance in making a show successful.

Last week I went to a show for the first time. The equipment was pretty good and there was even a sub-woofer, something BD always insisted was a must to have!

When I arrived at the show there was a small crowd and only a couple of people had signed up to sing. So, it was left to the host to fill in with eoither bumper music and or to sing himself. As I would prefer, he did both. Unfortunately his singing could empty any room, including the bathrooms. It would have been much more pleasant if he actually could sing (even a little)

While I don't have any expectations about what the singers will sound like at any venue, I do expect the host to be able to sing and to fill in the dead moments with songs that are entertaining

That sort of infers I was being unpleasant to Angel.

My footnote at that time was BigDog for President.
I thaught he was great.
He would deliberatly cause controversy to liven things up.

Angel is doing that now.
You know yourself how much credence to give it.

I like Angel being on this forum.
I wish BigDog would come back.

Well I did my little gig last night.
I sang Oomp Pah Pah. Most of them joined in the chorus.
It went down really well.
I became aware that the quality of my voice was not the important bit.
I don't go out of key, I'm just nothing special.
It is how I put it accross that seemed important.
I think doing the Cockney accent helped me.
It is a bit like singing behind a mask.

That really is a good song to bring people together.
What other songs get people going.? I need to know.

Don't Stop Believing by Journey, if you get the right crowd. Even (especially) the younger 20-somethings go nuts for it.
Also Sweet Home Alabama, again with the right crowd, including the 20 somethings.
Those two came to me just off the top of my head. If I think of more, I'll add them.

Kiss, the Tom Jones version, always seems to get the ladies revved up even when I sing it. :dancin: I haven't had any panties thrown at me yet, though.

Skynrd: Call me the Breeze, I Know a Little, Gimme Three steps.

My Ding a Ling will get 'em singing along.

Folsom Prison Blues will almost always elicit a rebel yell from somewhere in the audience.

I'll razz the smokers with Smoke! Smoke! Smoke! (That Cigarette)

I'll add more as I think of them . . .

Oh Angel I disagree... I've seen (Karaoke) shows all over this great US and I have laughed my A$$ off at some karaoke clubs because the host couldn't sing but he was one Hell of a comic, or the musician type who can not sing but but can play a (harmonica, guitar etc...) instrument with the karaoke music making it somewhat more enjoyable for the patrons. In the entertainment world you ALWAYS accentuate your positive attributes. People like karaoke for many reasons they are not all about the singer and how well they sing. I think if I couldn't sing (some say I can't, but I try) if I juggled flamming squirrels in between karaoke songs I pretty sure it would get some attention. That's entertainment.

Well if the KJ has some other entertainment talent that would help. But if they can't do anything but turn on the mixer and that's it.

And how many people go to karaoke to see magicians and comics and people playing instruments? I call that an open stage or amature talent night NOT KARAOKE.

The KJ still needs to sing to show everyone what to do and to add some entertainment value for the nonsingers.

Singing is a plus, not a must.

I don't have much for props, a pair of Buddy Holly glasses and my harmonicas. Occasionally I get requested to do Piano Man with my harmonica and I insert names of people at the venue into the song including the bartender. I change the lyrics "or to light up your smoke" to "or to light up your smoke---outside"

Angel says no props or it's not karaoke, I guess I'm busted, turning in my resignation.
