No, I didn't construct some new living quarters for man's best friend. In this context a dog house refers to a storage/stowage area for cabling inside the mixer case behind the mixer itself usually on larger concert series boards.

The case for my new (well new to me) 01V showed up on Friday. I intentionally ordered it larger than the console so that I'd have room behind it for cabling and whatnot. My plan was to figure out a way to secure the board in the case so that it would not move around with all that extra room. Ultimately I decide to construct my own custom dog house.

Now I've mentioned on previous occasions my dislike for homemade half-assed looking equipment. So doing this on my own made me a bit nervous. However, having one custom made was going to take at least a month, be extremely expensive and would all be based on measurements taken once (i.e. any mistakes or mis-measurements and the whole thing is junk). Attached are photos of what I came up with (sorry the photo quality isn't better). All in all it turned out exactly as designed and pretty pro looking (based on others that I've seen). So I felt the urge to do a little gear whoring to show it off here.

Nice looking. that is the original 01v; I thought you were going for the '96. If I may ask, how much did you get that for?

I had originally hoped to get a 01V96, however the prices on them used are still pretty high (around US $1600-1800). I saw a number of original 01V's for around US $600-700. I ended up getting this one for about $580 and it came with a AES/EBU option card installed (worth about $300 used on its own). So I figured if I ended up not liking it I could always sell the board for what I bought it for.

So far I'm loving it. It's nice having the accuracy of a digital console and the flexibility too. The biggest benefit though is that with the entire thing (console, case and doghouse) only weighs 65 lbs, and it replaced a rack that weighed around 280. No more ripped knees on my jeans from hefting that thing in and out of the van.

Nice! I just built something similar for my lighting truss but it was out of fabric, and is basically 1 long pocket of fabric that has a couple of small dividers at the top so I can run cables all the way through it. Looks very nice! I think I need to build something similar to what you built to perhaps go under my lap top or something.

With the card, that is a good price. I am in the market for one of those. But I hate ebay.
