Hi,

I am converting a space into a Karaoke bar with individual rooms. It will have the bar area for open Karaoke, also a few 4 people rooms, 8 people rooms and a bigger party room. Therefore, i am in need of a great solution to do all this and have my system be easily updatable. Can anyone suggest some good karaoke players? (no need to talk about speakers or TVs quite yet. Also, not looking for a mobile solution or cd/dvd players.)

I have heard about these Japanese DAM Karaoke players: http://www.dkkaraoke.co.jp/business/karaoke_service/syouhin/cyberdam_blue/cyberdam_blue.html
But the problem is that all the info i can find on these is in Japanese. From what I understand, its updated monthly online so you always have the latest songs. These seem like great machines. Anyone use these?

thanks in advance...
H

Welcome.

The best advice you wil hear here is to forget the players and go for real audio equipment. There are many out there, it will depend on your budget as to what will be recommended to you. This group helped me put together an outfit that djs, competitors and singers from bands have given me persoanl kudos and most have actually told me no one can touch my sound around here.

Not bragging, just pointing out that you came to right place if you are serious about a great sounding system. Just listen and you will get some great choices for your money.

Also, if you are buying karaoke music that is not on a disc, you need to be confident the sites are legal to sell the music and then you need to keep your receipts. Bars and karaoke hosts are locked in a civil suit in Arizona over music that they may not have purchased legally. Most here will tell you that if you have digital music in your system, it's best to have the cdg on a 1 to 1 basis to prove you are legal.

Babel Fish http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ does a decent translation, enough that you should be able to find most of what you want to know. Just go to the link and insert the URL of the Japenese web site and tell Babel Fish to translate from Japenese to English. Most of the site translates.

We don't have a karaoke"room". We just use on of their "jukbox" type systems to host 2 nights of "American style" karaoke (where one singer entertains the entire bar).

The system works well and rarely has any problems.

The link above may have some information you can use.

Thanks for the info so far. I tried the Babel fish and its much better than google translate. Also, thanks for the 411 on legal music. I dont want to get wrapped up in that mess. I am definitely doing karaoke rooms, maybe up to 10 rooms and 1 station at the main bar for more "american style" karaoke too. Therefore, the server solution or on demand is much better than a CD or any disk solution.

Chris G,
The Unify Karaoke thing is interesting. I actually found them before and was interested in their products. Seems they can sell me an entire solution in one package. Did your jukebox system come filled with music? Also, how was working with them? They are based in Bejing, so i was a bit concerned about getting it all shipped here to the states (and then not liking the interface or something).

Any other Karaoke multi-room solutions? Im still having trouble finding good info online...

The bar I host in is a "satelite concpt" of a larger company. The IT guys in the larger company are the ones that deal with the equipment providers, so I don't know much about service.
We lease the system through karaokechamp.com and they offer "loaded machines" like ours with a monthly update to it via download directly to the box. They also email you the update pages for your book, so you can print and add them. They are based out of New York, too and rent the Unify system.

This might help you: http://www.karaokechamp.com/rental_long_term.html

Wish I knew more about it, I just push the buttons and talk on the mic !

Chris G,
Thanks for the info again. I am located in NY and Karaoke Champ is just down the street from me. I am going to go in there and see what packages they offer. They provide systems for many of the clubs here in the city as well. I hope to buy a system, but maybe renting is a good way at first.

I feel like i have a good start. Anyone else want to weigh in on what your Karaoke Bar/culb is using? I will continue to post on here as to what I find. (it seems like this big mystery, what to buy, the price, and updates...)

Hi - I'm writing from the UK, so not sure how feasible this solution would be, but at Lucky Voice we use DTT / karaokecube.co.uk:

http://www.karaokecube.co.uk/

They're very well thought-of over here but I don't know if they work with clients outside the UK.

Good luck! :D

Hi, I run a place in Florida like you are planning to ope. We have a public bar and nine private rooms.

You will not be able to use Japanese DAM machines. They are very expensive and are have not been converted to work in the US.

The UK system only offers 5000 songs. You will probably need 15,000 minimum.

The best software solution at the moment is to use Unify. It's a bit clunky and takes some time to set up, but it is fairly cheap and reasonably reliable (once you get to know its quirks). You can run it on any US-bought PC, saving you shipping.

I don't recommend using Unify's song library (except for Asian songs). You should buy a library from Sound Choice or other manufacturers.

Making your own songbooks is a big deal. It took us six weeks to make ours and updating them is a pain. If you can't be bothered with all that then talk to Karaoke Champ.

We use Siglos Karaoke Player Professional for our public bar, mainly because it can process the filenames of our song library correctly.

Feel free to PM me if you need more info. You can check our place at http://www.kroakys.com

Wow sparkzilla, your- Kroaky's website is EXCELLENT and very professional.

I love Sarsota and have stayed many times in the Siesta Key area, although it's been a bout 6 years since my last visit- hawaii is hard to leave sometimes, and my grandma passed away a few years ago and she lived nearby you.

Congrats on your success and thanks for posting good information for us all. :hi5: -john
