I have 2 that have this problem and was wondering what to you. I just removed the traces, but am looking for what to replace it with. Looking forward to hear what other would use...MrD

Have you tried to contact the Shure support? They're very knowledgeable when it comes to parts and help you out. You can also order the parts in question directly from them. :)

Phone number in the US: (800) 516-2525

Might as well just replace the entire screen. It comes with a new foam insert plus gives a new look to the mic.
Mic Ball

I haven't seen an original replacement that didn't have one.

Here's a ball I find indistinguishable from the real thing:

http://audiopile.net/products/Microphon ... ball.shtml

Only $5.00 -- I bought several.

guys, I think he is refering to the foam that is on top of the cartridge. its a thin layer that sticks on. I have two of them where i just cleaned it all off cause it was gooo. then I stuck a new ball on it with good foam. once in a while you do get a bit of a pop on the P . I wouldnt mind finding out where to get them either.

Whats a " arts & craft" store?
ok seriously, is it about the same, is the foam "open cell"? I have a mic or two which the "capsule" screen has seen better days. I hope we are talking about the same thing. The little piece of foam that is about the size of a quarter that is right on top of the element capsule.

I think the guy from shure mis typed when he put 4.14+vat in the uk its more like £10.00 to £15.00 so i think he ment to type 14.95

I try to keep my mics as clean as possible, but consider your surrondings. I keep my mics in a zippered bag. I unzipped the bag the other day, and wow...got it right in the face. A combination of cigarette smoke, vomit, spit, state beer, booze breath {sorry don't mean to gross you out}. Anyway, yeah i just run out to our local craft store, flirt with all the ladies, and pick up a sheet of that black foam. Same stuff. Cut a circle, replaced them all. All of 10 minutes. Now after which i have to boil the grill..yuck..nasty. :D
