I can appreciate the need for a karaoke company who is actively seeking engagements to have a website. Between my day job, screwing with music and equipment, my 2 or 3 gigs, and trying to maintain a house, and have a life on top of all that ...

Am I missing a few hours a day that others have? Where can I buy more time? :)

Drop the day job. That will free up PLENTY of time to devote to the REAL PRIORITY---KARAOKE!!!!!

I am guessing that, like myself, Karen does not just show ANYONE her equipment. Besides, you would just laugh at mine.

Hey Moonrider----what kind of band R U in? Speedmetal or classic rock, blues??

Right now, I'm not in a band. I left the last one because I was getting too many conflicts with my solo work and karaoke hosting, so I left to concentrate on those. I do the occasional stint as a "hired gun" for local artsits and some studio work to round things out.

My myspace page has a good selection of the music I played in the last few years - every song pretty much a different genre.

Like Babs, I've had stalker issues and prefer to maintain my privacy as much as I can on the internet. I do have a Facebook group, but it's administered by my "alter ego", so my personal privacy is still maintained somewhat.
I have tons of equipment at my disposal, but I see no real need to "brag" about it it or prove I have have it. Why would I?
I have nothing to prove to anyone here. They can take what I say at face value and either use it or chuck it. It's their choice.
Cheers!

I agree with Diafel. Privacy is paramount. Too many cyber bullies and theives who know how to exploit everything. A family member had to go through identity theft. -took 3 years and she's still pizzed and paranoid to this day. I don't ask for, want, or need that kind of trouble.

And i had a stalker HERE on this forum awhile back, so to speak. A singer at one of my venues keep talking about my posts here AT MY SHOW and spilled my thoughts, opinions, and rants here to some of my other singers. I had to go back and edit almost 100 of my original posts last year. NOT FUN. Fortunately i didn't get in trouble with any singers but had to edit the rants about the old bartender and useless doormen.

I prefer to keep my work and personal life seperate now...and just surf.

Swing, I bet her "equipment" is a whole lot more fun to look at than yours. What kind of place is this that we have to post pics of our equipment?

All this talk about equipment pics made me have to check to see if I wasn't on that other forum. I don't have a webbie because I don't know how to make one.

A website does not a successful karaoke business make

LOL After retirement you have to find things to do. I spend about $200/yr on the web site and other services. One good party pays for it. For karaoke only it doesnt do much unless your venue has a lot of college kids. Actually myspace and facebook do more for the business.

LOL I've been following this thread for a while with quite a bit of amusement. At first i couldn't even figure out what the goal was, and honestly I'm still not sure. But a couple things have come up here that I felt like sharing my feelings on.

Website. I have one, it's not real special and a graphics designer's nightmare but it does the job. I totally disagree that a Karaoke company has to have a website to be successful or legit. Some of the most successful multi-rig Karaoke companies in my area don't have websites or do much advertising at all. I have a website because I used to be a web programmer and can pretty easily throw something together. I wanted a place for people to find me online so they could check schedules and whatnot. I think I get a lot more business through my yellow book and online directory listings than I do through my own website.

Pics of Equipment. Personally this is one of my little annoyances with other DJ's and KJ's websites. The constant feeling that they need to show pics of their equipment. Very few people who hire you care or even know what they're looking at when you show those pics. I can understand showing a shot of your full rig setup on a stage at a gig to show it's professional appearance (cuz that's what your brides, corporations or other clients will care about) but very few if any potential clients want to see the CD players, amps and mixers mounted in your rack. Most of the DJ and KJ sites I've looked at that have those pics shouldn't. The pics make the rig look so bad an unprofessional that it is almost and advertisement against the hiring that company. For me, why do I want to advertise all my specific equipment online anyway, all that really does is advertise what I have available to be stolen. When I talk about my rig on my site I keep it pretty general for the most part, only mentioning a few manu's names in cases where I think they're recognizable to the lay person as a brand of some quality (Shure and EAW/Mackie).

That's my take I know others feel quite differently.

Also what does a pic actually do.

It displays some equipment that may or may not belong to the poster.

Phoney or what. :P :P :P
