Cool!
It was a joke, just like everyone else is joking about it. Lighten up.

Obviously you missed that I was joking as well.
I hate it when someone jumps into the fray without knowing what they're talking about and you have to get all serous and explain it to them.
Ruins the fun.

I do agree with your thoughts for the most part but KJs can make an impact that is lasting and can affect the bottom dollar greatly!
And I'm guessing there were far more than 8 people in the bar right? Don't misunderstand my point, I do have regulars that will go to other venues just because it's me. But 8 people is hardly enough to justify what they're paying you (unless you really work for cheap). Everyone else there were patrons who either already visited that bar and were there for that reason and maybe came on that particular night because of the Karaoke or were new to the bar and came because they heard/saw advertised that Karaoke was going to be there.
That's my point, we do add value for the bars, absolutely. If we didn't, they wouldn't hire us. However, with only one or two extremely notable exceptions, I have yet to see a Karaoke show that actually drew a crowd (the way a band does) regardless of where they played. And this affects our goals and expectations as a business.

The rotation, my personality, my selection, my sense of humor. I'm all business. It all mattered to them but the sound was the kicker. Take it for what it's worth.
WE WILL
I can't count how many times people have told me how wonderful I am, what a great sound my system produces, how excellent my mixes are, and YADA YADA YADA.... NEVER TO SEE THEM AGAIN! Who knows why people like to blow smoke?
Good for you that in this instance the person is still coming to your show. But I am not at all impressed with that fact. I am also not impressed with their opinion of you UNLESS the person is Simon Cowell, the American Idol expert on performances that are karaoke

Keep in mind tha this was a Wednesday night vs my other gig which is Thursday. So they came out on a Wednesday. Now I said 8 but there others that venture to my Thursday gig and had a hand in management contacting me and asking me to do the Wednesday thing. Advertisement was strictly word of mouth and all that knew me came to the booth to submit a request and or say hello.
If an owner sees 8 new customers on the first night, he/she has to see there is a reason why they decided to come to that venue that they usually don't go to and on a differrent night. So while 8 doesn't pay for the milk and cookies most likely, it sends out a message. If I decide to continue this gig on Wednesdays, maybe it will be 16 next week?
I stand corrected, I did mention it on facebook and on the scrolling marquee on my website.

Simon is not as experienced at karaoke as i am. He has never spun a karaoke disc. He is not the "mixer" on the show. His opinion of karaoke means nothing to any of us. I highly doubt that he could sing one note. His talent is his ear for singing talent and if they have enough to make money for his record label.
My reputation as a KJ is as good or not better than his. Call me the Simonique of karaoke. If i had to pick between taking karaoke show advice from me or Simon, i would pick me.
