Thinking of going to the QSC GX5 and mixer combo and using my POWERED MIXER as a back up.
Will there be a noticible differance in power going from 350watts to 500 watts ?
or is 150watts - not going to make a BIG spalsh ?

It's not a huge difference, but I bet a GX5 has more headroom than the built-in amp in your powered mixer. Those integrated amps do not have a lot of room for heat sinks, fans, and large power supplies which are the norm in outboard amps.

Agree for the most part. I think there will be more of difference at higher volume as the amp won't be pushing as hard.

As a general rule, you need 10 times the power for twice the volume, and twice the power for a 3db boost (smallest noticeable difference). That's assuming you're using the same speakers in both cases.
There's other factors that come in to play though. That QSC amp is likely to have far less total harmonic distortion than the powered mixer you're using now. That means you'll be able to use a larger percentage of the 500 watts, and get more volume without worrying about clipping.
The mixer will affect things too. If it's got a nice clean output too, that's going to help you immensely with gain staging, which will help combat feedback in tight places.
Overall, I'd say that yeah - you'll notice a difference. Not so much in volume, but in things like clarity and more control over the sound.

I would agree --I'm, just trying to figure out if its worth the $700 it will cost

I believe it would still be an improvement in overall sound quality. Bring it home & test it - then if not, return it.

Yeah ..Thats the way I'm leaning
I'm looking to sell some stuff to offset the cost of the new equip.
My old Behringer PMH200 powered Mixer ( don't need if I use my Yam for backup)
2- Behrinegr B212 - liteweight 12" speakers ( don't need now that I have PR15's)
I also have some SKB cases and rigs looking to unload.
Once I do that ...I'll be in buyinhg mode !!!
Just can't decide on a mixer
Leaning towards the Mackie Profx 8 $230

Any $230 mixer is not likely to be a significant upgrade from, well, any other mixer in that price range. Are you getting more AUXes or something else you need? If not, hang onto what you have if you can get by with it for a while. Save the money for a MixWiz or something down the road.

I would think you could find a GX5 for less than $700. Musicians Friend?

Just caught that, not sure where the $700 figure came into play. It's a $400 amp everywhere i've shopped it.

Not always. Low end amp manufacturers tend to spec their systems in a misleading manner.
A little enlightenment can be found here:

Just a power rating isn't the best guide to use. You need to be aware of how much power can be delivered across ALL audible frequencies, and how much distortion is present at the rated power spec.
