I don't even understand how there could be such a thing as a 70 person rotation. If there were a 70 person rotation, the following facts would probably be true as well:

1) There were 70 singers waiting to sign up before you started karaoke or soon after you started? If not, how can you justify putting in a singer in hour 4 ahead of the first guy tht sang?

2) If there were 70 singers, I would assume there were 200+ people in the crowd? Most singers have at least a few friends that are non-singers.

3) The 70 person rotation either did not get finished, with all 70 different people singing, or it was more like a 100 person rotation and like 30 people left. I have a pretty busy karaoke bar, and have been to plenty busier than mine, and MOST singers will not wait over an hour, hour 1/2 to sing.

Do you mean that you had 70 total people sing in a 4 hour show?

I want more details!! LOL....you know I'm just giving you a hard time...really though, I don't see how a 70 person rotation is physically possible.

Yes, 70 singers do sound overwhelming. But the fact is there were 70 people who wanted to sing and stayed to do so. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the early singers left as they saw the rotation grow; and I wouldn’t blame them for doing so.

As DJ DANGERUS said “Usually our rotations are about 35 to 45 singers…” And as such if all 45 singers stayed from beginning to end, he probably wouldn’t get to everyone a second time unless he stayed close to six hours to finish the round. So I would hope his regulars would recognize the abnormality of it and return as they normally would.

Now, if this were to turn out to be a trend, why question success? Immediately discuss a fee increase.

Personally, while I do believe this phenomena is rare, and may not readily repeat itself, I wouldn’t have a problem with that kind of business regularly; bring ‘em on! Start earlier, work later, whatever it takes to increase income for all concerned.

But that’s just my view, your mileage may vary.

Many singers will stay away for other shows where they can sing more.

Which is exactly the reason 'crappy' shows CAN survive. Overflow from better shows.

Once it gets much above 30 for me I try to work the first singers back in.

I will do that at about 15 singers unless I have more than that that all signed up at the same time, then I may cap it at 20 & work the rest of the new singers in a second round. No more continuing to put new singers on an endless first rotation if they keep coming.

Congrats. Exhausting but nice to have! We recently did a gig on a special night at one of our regular venues. It was in tandem with the big coutry radio station in SF. Had 65 singers, of whom only 10 were regulars. They all stayed and danced the night away since we also had a dance floor and DJ'd later on. Place stayed packed til closing but everyone knew this in advance so there was no disappointment and we picked up some new regs out of it. However on a normal night in a decent club they will still stay. I see this every week at another show where new singers are inserted at bottom of order (no cap). On most nights its a one song night. They all complain but all stay because they like the place and "everyone else is there"

This is a built-in limitation of Karaoke, a fact that we all need to acknowledge.

There will always be someone that gets mad about it. People complaining because they have to wait. And they are spending money so they think they should be singing sooner.

Yeah, some will think that. But is it really just about singing? I enjoy watching others take the mic and going after it.

Makes sense - I love a full room -- all summer long I did a show on a big outdoor patio and some nights we had 80 people buying food and drinks...but usually about 10-12 singers. Perfect ratio in my mind!
