It's a nice setup, certainly better than alot of lowball companies, but right in line to most of the pros here that have similar setups. I have no problems with Peavey, I use them myself - the tops in bi-amp mode bypassing the internal crossover which makes a huge difference.

Yamaha has done extensive testing to make their speakers and amplifies work together.

I have had nothing but problems with every Crown amplifier i ever owned. I have owned many different models. I'm done with Crown forever.

Yet she uses Crown amps - guess forever means :roll: .
The system itself is a basic system overall otherwise, some entry level pieces, some a little higher grade (compressor/amps), some mid grade pieces - just as nice as MANY systems that have been outlined by several members here. Enough to brag about to the extent she does - not really???? :roll: :roll: :roll:

Any Peavy system I have listened to either had distortion in the vocal range or popping in the bass. I have heard them so distorted you couldnt understand what the announcer was saying. Which is another thread why apply EFX on the anounce mic?

I disagree with that. I run the SP5 as well on my tops, but they are bi-amped themselves & very clear.
I can't STAND kj's who don't turn the effect off when they do announcements.

LOL My first experience with PA systems was listening to auctioneers on Bogen tube amps out in the field and you could hear them taking in breaths. They were crystal clear and you could hear every word and emotion. To this day I judge mics and PA systems by what the announcer sounds like. My best compliment on my system was when a gal told me when they got out of their car it sounded like I was 4 feet away. That is one of my trademarks When I say hello during mic checks it is crystal clear. I dont need to listen to the music other than bass or extreme highs...

Well these Crowns and others have given me trouble and the statement about the Yamaha amp and speakers is true.

The equipment i use now was recommened by a very knowledgeable man but after much use and some trouble i wouldn't recommend many of these things again. The next upgrade will be to Yamaha amps and speakers.

My equipment is superior to much of the competition. But not what i am totally satisfied with. There is room for improvement. But i will not be going backwards.

Just as much of my competition seems to have a lack of knowledge of and the ability to use what they have, i take pride in my mixing and hearing skills. When your competitions main interest is just how to make some money, my interest is in sound quality and singer experience.

From everything in my experience price always seems to be a factor in equipment choices. I have no problem paying for quality. I would guess that 98% of KJs end up with cheap sounding systems because they either don't want to pay for quality or they can't afford to pay for it. Either way it shows in their final product, their show. :angel:

QSC PLX amps will blow the Yamaha amps away, also the SP5 are better than the Club series IMO. Tri-amp the system (SP5 bi-amped with 2 separate amps (highs & mid/mid-lows) & 1 amp on the subs bridged, the DJS1800 are a 1400 watt speaker, get one amp that can bridge to 4 ohms at around 2500 watts for a good match) & you will be much impressed. Drop the crossover for a Driverack, won't need the BBE with the Driverack, nor the Alesis EQ - could move those to monitors.

Yes if you do want auctioneer services I come from a rural background and can chant with the best. I can sell refrigerators to eskimos. After the auction we can karaoke until wee hours in the morning..

I do like the tech service And tech support FROM jbl I also like the resale value which never drops Google JBL Eon on Ebay. However with higher wattage systems I prefer QSC

Lonman, Peavey is in the area, however through her bragging, I was expecting a sensational sound system from Angel. It was a letdown. Sort of like going to someplace and the fanfare that goes with it only to find out it's pretty much like home.

No I understand, when you are expecting the best to be listed & get about the same as most everyone else here has, kind of blows any kind of credibility to the hype of everything she touts about.

I had a new singer last night. He is a DJ at least the business card said that. So i'm not real sure if he KJs.
Anyway he sings his first song and before the second song wants me to give him more mid range.

How am i supposed to know what a new singer wants to hear. He sounded perfectly fine to me. But he totally screwed up the song and he really wasn't that good.

I looked at my settings and the mid range is set at 3 oclock. How much more could he want? The bass is at 10 and the high was at 1.

The singers using that microphone after he sang all sounded good. Nothing was too much of one or the other. Could it have been what he is used to somewhere else?

How do you know what a singer expects to hear? :angel:

That's where swept mid (better yet a 4 band parametric channel eq) comes in handy over a basic 3 band channel eq. Although I would never run the mids that high.

Next time you get a request like that, cut the bass and boost the treble instead.

Human voices generally have fundamental frequencies in the 300Hz to 3000Hz range(mid range knob). There's also a "vocal presence" range from 4000Hz to 6000Hz (treble knob) where the sibilant sounds live. Too much cut in this area will make vocals seem dull and lifeless. Too much boost will make them seem harsh and shrill

Most 3 band EQs have the bass knob controlling from about 20Hz to about 150-200 HZ, excessive boost in this range may give you problems with excessive popping from plosives, and can amplify harmonics that make vocals seem boomy or muddy. Too much cut will make vocals sound "thin" or lacking in body.

As said before, people adjust to bad sound, and they don't even realize it's bad. When I first started working in my main venue, the sound system was horrible. Most of the channels didn't even work, and the sound effects didn't work at all. Raw sound. No reverb, nothing. It sounded terrible, but the customers came. And they loved karaoke there. They liked me, the atmosphere, the other people, etc. When I put my system in the bar, it was a world of difference. I expected to have many customers commenting on the better sound, but surprisingly, only a few even noticed. They were my regular singers. And some of them didn't. So you never know. I think we particularly notice sound, because our ears are trained to, and it's one of our goals as a reputable KJ. (And it helps our ears as well. :) ) True, you can't do anything about the singer who is always a hair off on their note. As a matter of fact, it's more pleasing to my ear if they are way off their notes than just a little. But reverb and adjusting the sound can help these people sound better. One of the things I hear most often as a compliment is, "You make me sound so good!" I just smile and say, "I'm not doing anything! You just rock!"

Miss B you just saved me a lot of typing time. People DO get accustomed to horrible sound. But I also think that perhaps a lot of people don't really listen to anything but their actual voice and are so in love with it, they don't truly listen to the technical aspects of the amplification. I definitely adjust for each singer and they do appreciate it. In fact, a few of them have said they're not sure why they sound so good when I mix them -- must be my versions? The acoustics in the room? Oh yah....of course it is. :)
