Under current law, american Karaoke companies can't compete with foreign. We've even had lawyers tell us if we get a disc manufactured in the UK and shipped over to us, that is also illegal to sell and use in a karaoke show.

Can you say "PROTECTIONISM" ??? Sooner or later the darned stupid American manufacturers are going to have to shake the fog out of their heads and get busy and fulfill the needs of karaoke providers in this country.

Get a new lawyer.
There are millions of goods made overseas that are fully leagal to use in the US.
Now that does not mean that ALL oerseas products are legal (same with all US made ones). But for any legal advisor to generalize that ALL overseas products are not legal for use, suggests either an agenda or ignorance.

Yes as soon as congress solves all of the other bigger issues facing the country from health care, global warming, wars, social security and so on they will be right on it.
Seriously folks do you expect congress to get their house in order enough that Karoke rises to anywhere near the top priority.
Not in my lifetime.
Our whole industry does not even make enough money to bribe them enough to notice us.

I'm still baffled as to how come Sound Choice make their discs in the UK, yet they are not available here.

I posted this on another thread as well, for different reasons. However, as far as "legal" downloads go- and proving my point:
A conversation on another forum lead me to take this exerpt. I was the one posting, and included a quote from Kurt S, CEO of SC...
...............................................................................................................
"
3) If one were to have a download site, wouldn't it behoove one to download a copy of the licensing for each track, if such licensing WERE AVAILABLE?
****************************************************************
QUOTE FROM KURT AT SC: "
We do not have the rights from the Music Publishers (who represent the song writers) to grant the transfer of our music from the CDG to a hard drive"
****************************************************************
My Reply:
"If that's the case- and YOU say it is- then how were downloads made available? Did someone sit by a PC with the entire SC library and manually play a disc into the internet with each request?
No, my guess would be that SC may just have possibly transferred discs to a hard drive for download. As stated above, by SC- WITHOUT THE RIGHTS TO DO SO .. So much for licensed music...."
...............................................................................................................
There are no U.S. legal download sites, and there NEVER HAS BEEN. Period. ESPECIALLY for SC tracks. Rip from your discs....
