Anyone ever come across this group????

ROFLMAO. What a joke. Check out the long "membership list", and the number of "Certified Venues." 0 in both cases.

Wait, I'm confused, Why is "Poop" mentioned at the bottom big as day. Wouldn't they be in competition with each other? or are they the same thing,

I think they are hoping to be an organization that is under the umbrella of "poop".

I found this on their site as well:

Quote:
Currently ORKA is not seeking any membership dues all we ask is the service you provide in the karaoke industry is piracy free. ORKA will provide a certificate with serial # after music library has been certified. ORKA is going to provide this service for free until the end of 2009.

Wonder how long that will last?
Not sure how many they will get to pay dues in 2010, but I'm guessing not too many.

This could be almost an extortion racket. If you don't join they may have potentail venues hire companies on that list than the freelancers with better equipment.

I'm anxious to hear what's happening with the AZ trial. That's either going to lend creedence to this type of fear mongering organziation or it's going to render them pointless. Has anyone e-mailed either POOP or this ORKA? I e-mailed POOP over a month ago with a legitimate membership question and have yet to hear back. Makes me think they don't even talk with anyone unless they pay a due. As far as I'm concerned any organization that professes to help, and doesn't communicate, isn't worth squat.

I'd very much like an elaboration of the whole 'library certification' thing. I'm still confused under who's authority they are able to certify anything? The fact that ORKA is offering certification makes me believe they aren't an offshoot of POOP, but a sanctioned branch.

Sounds like a business opportunity though. What does a membership require but a shared view? 'Join NARKA - We stand for nothing, if you feel the same, send us $50 and let's join forces.' :vomit:

It seems like for a certification scheme to work, you would have to be recertified every year or two. After all, what does it mean to have a certified catalog if it was done 10 years ago?

What does certification mean? What does it do? I think what these organizations are trying to do is for a 'karaoke club', then spread the word that this karaoke club is the only way to be protected from nothing. Preying on the ignorance of venue owners and karaoke companies.

It's not illegal. POOP states you're protected against suits from it's member manufacturers. So in essence, if someone has pirated karaoke tracks from a manufacturer outside the POOP, they're SOL.

I think the real question is - Is POOP colluding to take over the karaoke industry in the US?

Collusion is an agreement, usually secretive, which occurs between two or more persons to limit open competition by deceiving, misleading, or defrauding others of their legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically by defrauding or gaining an unfair advantage.

Either join POOP and use POOP certified tracks, or risk the unknown. Because if you do join POOP and only use POOP certified tracks, you're at least safe from lawsuits from POOP ... or are you?

I need a Altoid.

Libraries can't really be certified
1. is the library submitted for certification the operator's only library or just his legitimate library
2. how many rigs/libraries does he actually own?
3. are their tracks in his library of discs that are not original?

Actually and Theoretically

If an organization included and was supported by those involved in DJ'ing and KJ'ing:

Every manufacturer
Every retailer
Every legitimate KJ/DJ

It could create an awareness level regarding piracy that doesn't now exist

But would that accomplish anything?
