Well, this a funny sweet story so I thought I'd relate.

At my Friday night gig I've got a young singer named Jennifer. She's really good, and has even been to American Idol tryouts. She's also pretty, funny, smart, talented and amazingly very down to earth. She, and her friends come in, rock the house, help out with the show, and have a good time. We've become friends.

Kevin is one of the bartenders at the very same bar. He's smart, works out, and has all the girls at the bar swooning... especially late at night when the alcohol is flowing.

Anywho, one night I made the off hand comment to Jennifer (and she'd been coming to my show for months), "Why doesn't your boyfriend ever come out to see you sing?" I was surprised to learn that she doesn't have one because she keeps picking jerks, etc.

A week later, after closing, I'm talking to Kevin, joking around and I said, "Damn dude, you have GOT to be getting major play working at this bar." To which he responded, "Not really. The girls here are so superficial, it's not worth it." We had an in depth conversation, and I found out this was a deep thinking, easy going kid with something really going on (he is working his way through school).

Flash to a week later. Jenn has had a few drinks, and a bunch of the girls at the bar were flirting with Kevin... it was bad... his face was flush red. Which another funny trait of his... he is a little shy, and doesn't quite know how to handle the attention (ah, the ignorance of youth....). At which point Jenn blurts out to me as she's coming up to sing, "Dang he's so yummy!"

"Really?" I chuckled to myself. "You should talk to him if you think that."
"Aw, he's got girls all over the place, he wouldn't be interested in me."

Well, after closing time Kevin and I are talking again, and I said, "Man, that Jennifer can sing her A$$ off. Pretty too. What do you think."

He got a funny look in his eye, "Yeah, she's something else. Probable a Diva though."

I said, "Not even Kevin. One of the most down to earth girls I know for her age. You should ask her out."

"Na, she wouldn't be interested in me."

"Kevin, Trust the Koyote." 8)

Well, a week later I see Jenn, "Hey Koyote, guess who I've got a date with tomorrow night?"

"Who?"

"Kevin!" Big ol' smile on her face.

"No! Stop playing"

Well, over the last several weeks things seem to have been going well, but I could hear "caution" in their conversations as both seemed cautious about committing too much.

So anyway, last night I walked in to set up... and I said to Kevin, "So how's things going with Jennifer?"

He got a glassy eyed smile to his face, "Man Koyote, I really like her a lot. She's a great girl."

During the night, the two of them sent "cutesy" Text messages back and forth to each other. It was too sweet. "How's things going with Kevin Jenn?" Glassy eyed smile, "Oh he's a great guy, Koyote. I really like him."

Unbelievable. I needed to put this down somewhere so I can write the screen play...lol. Hope the "ending" is a happy one.

I'm so sneaky... :D Don't know how things will turn out between these two, for now it looks like "young love" is blossoming.

So, should I open a "Karaoke Dating Service" or what? Lol.

That is a nice story and part of why I think the youth-oriented shows are still thriving while the older ones wane. When you have that possibility for meeting someone or running into someone who has caught your eye you keep going back every week. Once you are "settled" it isn't as pressing. (I know there are older people looking but it's a different dynamic, somehow.)

I met my boyfriend at karaoke even though I had the philosophy that "You aren't going to meet anyone worth while at a BAR."

Well done, without being intrusive. Maybe you should add that service or at least something for your marketing--"If you are looking for that special howling partner, come venture into The Den and let the Koyote find you the pick of the litter."

That's sweet.
Last December, I was playing pool at a league Xmas party and had to leave early to do a private party. When I told the other pool players, one of them wanted to tag along with me. I told him "No", because, being a private party, it would be very unprofessional of me to start inviting people. He really likes karaoke and tried to convince me to take him. I left, with my daughter/ roadie (Can't carry heavy stuff due to bad knee) to follow with her boyfriend to drop her off. Well I get there, and my daughter has this same guy with her. I was not pleased, to say the least, but the damage had already been done so I just carried on with set up and the show.
Turns out he met a wonderful girl there.
Last June, they came to one of my shows to tell me they are getting married.
I was thrilled. They certainly made my night!
I just did their wedding at the beginning of the month.
I don't normally do weddings, but they really wanted ME to do it and have karaoke as well.
Because it was them, I did their wedding and it went off very well.
They really are a great match.

Koyote, maybe it would be a good idea to add that to your list of accomplishments on your web. "Karaoke Host, and (part-time) matchmaker. You might want to HIRE "LL" to do your marketing. That was a GREAT line Leopard.

Yes LL, it was! :D

The circumstances here were so unique, that I doubt I could ever intentionally duplicate it. I had two young, smart, attractive people, who admired each other but not quite brave enough to take a chance.

All my life people have confided in me... I don't know why. In high school it was very frustrating because the girls I liked always brought me their boyfriend problems... lol. Here, I had the opportunity to give them a gentle nudge and biology did the rest... :D

Maybe you should dress up like KJ Kupid for karaoke. LMAO

Very cool story, you'll always be a part of the story "How we met".

It's a great feeling when you see people meet at your karaoke show and then eventially get married. Happy endings are the best !

The down side is if they break up. I've seen couples fight over who's bar it is and they should have the right to go because they started going there first and the other person shouldn't attend any more.

I've also seen people break up after yrs of being together and start coming in with a new girl/boyfriend. Oh the drama.

I have a couple dramas going on right now. :D

That's so cool...if it works out. You're in a bad position if it doesn't. I met my husband at karaoke. If he ever leaves me, he should be the one who doesn't come back!!
