As for rotation I only make suggestions to others. I don't believe any one way fits all.

For me I have to stick to a strict rotation otherwise I would lose patrons. If I accidently skip someone they let me know immediately. If I showed any kind of favortism people would complain and walk out the door. I am all karaoke all the time. The patrons at my venue all sing. They take karaoke very very seriously.

Another thing I could never do is let people sing just because they were leaving. I'd would create a huge headache for myself ! I have way to many singers to allow such a thing. I'd have no way of letting every person sing just because they were leaving. Not to mention people who just say that so they can sing again. If they think that one will work they'd be using every excuse in the book why they should sing more. Sometimes there is a 2 hour wait to sing. You can see my dilema.

Yeah, I guess I'm pretty lucky to be in small town Iowa. Things aren't quite so intense. I don't get people complaining about their turn. We're all just there to drink and have a good time. My heart goes out to you all in the big cities. The pay off is that you work a lot more than I do. But I probably have more fun....

I believe that everything that needed to be said has been said

I believe some have benefited greatly from some of the input, particularly those from Jr2423, Babs, Missbipbip and Maryoke

As to my credibility, it is still in tact with me --- which is all that counts!

And on that subject, I have a very strong rule about ballads, and my people know it (or else I tell them). Ballads may fly at the end of the night, and occasionally during the night, but I'm there to sell liquor, and ballads don't do that, so they get put at the bottom of the pile. That may sound unfair to you all, but it works for me. Everyone has fun, (nothing brings you down faster than a ballad), and my boss is happy. :)

That's cool, whatever works for you and your boss to make a buck. That's what it's about for us isn't it? Making money I mean. And so long as you can draw and maintain a good number of spenders, who cares what the singers think?

It is only my opinion, but based on your philosophy, I would tend to think that many of the customers would be there regardless of whether it was you or someone else hosting the show.

Again…, your mileage may vary 8)

I'd rather suppose, if we want to come to unsubstantiated conclusions/opinions, that with 13 years of experience it IS because of Mary that folks show up. She knows how to make her crowd happy, and more important, make the owner a profit. And therefore, I go with the theory that people come back because of her!

Well, last week the rotation was surprisingly small and I'm not sure why. The whiners were there, thankfully, and seeing how few other singers had shown up by starting time, I started at my regular hour.

Last week. 10/22/09 the crowd was back to its "normal" size and started early. Everything went just as smooth as could be and not complaints.

Last night I had a larger than usual crowd, over 20 singers, and that was without the four singers who come together and order the pizza/pitcher special!

I couldn't get the "whiners" in the "extra" time before they left, but they left seemingly happy!

That's great !

It sounds like the "whiners" aren't whining any more. :D
