I have my playlist already sorted..
Very conventional.
Is there anything you would put in (off the rails) to make it more fun
yet still acceptable to any age group.

Going to bed now. UK midnight.

Would really appreciate your input on this.

I'm pretty conventional Jerry. I check out the mobilebeat top 200 most requested songs and just read the crowd from there bearing in mind that the newer stuff on the list may be obsolete by now. The other X factor is that the list might not prove as useful on your side of the pond.

I looked at that list. Good songs. Might I add Aceira Je by Las Ketchup. Fun song.

Well after spending about 12 hours putting a playlist together it was 95% karaoke.

While I was setting up the film crew (6 of them) all came over and introduced themselves.
Nice people... :)
With an agenda.

They required me to sign a disclaimer for broadcast.
Not a clue what it said, I just signed it.
I now realise what I signed.

The T.V. program is about 4 weddings.
Each couple go to each others wedding.
The couple that hosts the best wedding gets a luxury holiday.

A bit boring for a television program so they spice it up a bit.
They rip each others wedding to bits.

Apparently the KJ / DJ is not a KJ / DJ.
They are a target.
As are the cooks, the waiting on and bar staff and anyone else that gets involved.

It was a good night.
By the time it gets to air in January it will be the wedding from HELL.

It's been a lovely day. Just watch someone ruin it.

The old and new Portsmouth years ago.

Have you ever considered having your own comedy show? You definitely have the experiences and wit to assess them which should provide for a lot of material.

Thanks Leopard.
It's not funny though.
After it has been on T.V. I will probably be lucky to get a charity gig.

Viewing audiences are strange creatures.
They can view some karaoke and think yea that's ok.
If that is followed by a bride saying the sound was dreadful...
They will remember the sound was bad.

I know I can't win.
Getting used to a future as the Masked KJ. :(

And for what...
Trying to give them a good night.

I spent 12 hours learning Shakespeare and the film crew wanted non of it.

You were ambushed. It has happened to me on a small scale when being interviewed for something unrelated to karaoke--that is why politicians never answer a question but just keep repeating only what they want to be heard.

But a friend once told me that, at least as far as the newspaper goes, half the population won't read it and those that do will quickly forget. It seems to have held true in this short attention span age.

And as they say about publicity, good or bad, just get the name correct. You will probably get your own show out of this. Or should.

Did they do the chicken dance? That could be a worry......

No worries there... :D

My biggest problem was the brides father.
He started the karaoke singing Danny boy.
He went off key more than a few times.
That was not the bad bit...
He requested Tom Jones Delilah.
The words were on screen and that is what played.

I'm assuming the show is highbrow Channel 5 stuff or Sky!! Hopefully someone will put it up on an unnamed UK TV torrent site so I can catch it over here!

Regardless of how you come off on the show you can play it up in your self promotion.

Yes, it will be on Sky One in January.

I still can't get my head round why someone would want karaoke at their wedding.
Is that what people do now days ?

I've been asked to do a lot of weddings. I shy away from them because I am not a DJ. Most people want both. I make it clear I am not a DJ at all. Generally when people go to a wedding they expect a DJ. I'll get people constantly asking me if I can play this or that song. It's frustrating when I was hired for karaoke only. Don't get me wrong, I've done weddings successfully without a problem. Some families are huge karaoke junkies and it's a perfect fit.

Exactly why I shy away from wedding receptions as well. I always make it very clear that I am a Karaoke Guy who can also play "normal music" if need be. Not a DJ who dabbles in Karaoke.

And you can't be the Karaoke police. If some drunk twenty-somethings want to scream "Master Of Puppets" for seven minutes you really can't say no. Then when Grandma and Grandpa get up and leave...it's your fault.

Now, that being said I have done a ton of wedding after parties, showers and bachelor/bachelorette parties. THOSE are fantastic.

I LOVE doing karaoke weddings -- the pay's great, the people are usually more sober and on their best behavior, but you MUST be prepared. The timing of the events and the degree of preparation make it all a joy or a nightmare. Having a go between designated in advance to gently light a fire under the bride and groom will help as well. (Most couples don't realize how much has to be squeezed into such a short time and of course there is tiredness and lots of emotions they are dealing with, etc.)

The Mobile DJ top 200 list along with an update of the newest songs based off a scan of Billboard in the last few days before the wedding will allow you to satisfy the vast majority of the dance requests you're going to get. There really isn't all that much open dance time when you consider the amount of activities that are going to take place.

For doing all the traditional dances, etc. I prefer having the special songs burnt onto one disc and using a traditional player set in single play mode -- less possibility of any technical difficulties and WHEN (NOT IF) someone wants to make a last second change in the order of events on you -- it's all on that one disc ready to go.

Save the karaoke for LAST after all the traditional activities and you will find Grandpa and Grandma and folks who hate karaoke are LONNNNNG gone because you will have told them it's coming a few times before it starts. Old folks don't like to drive after dark so you'll usually find them leaving right after they eat some wedding cake unless they really love karaoke themselves...

Here's an actual working script I prepared for a karaoke wedding I did. If any of you guys have any suggestions, I'm all ears -- I don't know anywhere close to all of it.

Generally, I like how things went for this sample script except for the Dollar Dance -- I hate doing those -- too much time with the majority of the guests sitting and twiddling their thumbs although it is a good chance for them to look up what they want to sing. I'm thinking about incorporating the Dollar Dance into the open dance floor time. Here's a karaoke wedding I did this summer...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XXXXX's Reception

After sound check:

Verify time and place for food to be served
Verify time for toast drinks to be poured

But this time when I get to that point, I want you folks to take over and yell “Mr. And Mrs. Nathan XXXX”!

Let's practice it – “Ladies and Gentlemen, it is now my honor and privilege to introduce for the first time ever, the brand new... (gesture)

8:45 Cake Cutting

Cue “When I'm 64”

Ladies and Gentlemen may I have your attention please? If you will direct your attention to the South Nate and Becky are about to cut their wedding cake – all you folks with cameras, please wait till after the photographer gets her shots so your flash doesn't throw off her lighting

Play “When I'm 64”

9:00 Dollar Dance

Ladies and Gentlemen may I have your attention please. We’re about to start the Money Dance. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this tradition, we’re going to raise a little money to help Nate and Becky get their married life off to a good start. You can dance with Nate or Becky for whatever sum you’d like to donate to the cause.

Nate and Becky come on out to the dance floor. I’m also going to need our Best Man Jared and our Maid of Honor Alyssa to join Nate and Becky so they can stand by and collect the money. (I bet they like that part.) Now because we have so many guests tonight and so much left to do we’re going to ask that the Best Man and the Maid of Honor cut somebody new into the dancing about every 30 seconds or so.

So folks did down deep for this worthy cause and get lined up to dance!

For those of you who aren't dancing, remember we're doing karaoke later tonight.

Cue "All The Single Ladies". Get best man to serve as a chair for the bride.

9:30 Bouquet Toss

Ladies and Gentlemen may I have your attention please. At this time I need all the single ladies of Marriageable Age to come out to the dance floor. No children please, unless you’re ready to marry them off.

Cue "Bad To the Bone" etc.

9:45 Karaoke

10:55 Break For Last Dance
