I want to start practicing at home to sing at karaoke bars and want to buy a quality system but I have no idea where to start looking. Most of my singing has been with piano accompaniment so I am pretty much a novice with this stuff. I'm willing to spend whatever but at the same time don't want to overspend.

I think the reason you're not getting any responses, is because of not enough info. When you say a "quality" system, yet you don't want to overspend, you are giving MIXED signals. I think you would be better off giving a BUDGET limit of what you want to spend, and then see if anyone responds. Also, are you starting from scratch?
