Are there any "ifs, ands or buts" like restrictions on commercial use or registration? I remember Sound Choice was talking about keeping a data base of who they sold to. There isn't a lot of info about it on their site yet.

If it is legit for commercial use, even though we are disc based I would get a player with the MP3&G function and download some songs on USBs until we take the full computer plunge. It will instantly take the "Number of songs" factor out of the equation.

Not up this Tuesday either. Apparently this information was bogus.

You guys read the SC thread? Even they admit:

1) No rights to convert disc to digital- which is what they did anyway to facilitate downloading- a baddie right there.

2) There still is no licensing for digital downloads in the U.S. for ANYONE. There isn't even a template for such an agreement.

This isn't just me saying it. The statements by the CEO of SC validate it.

Stop dreaming, and go buy ( and rip, if PC) the discs. I am hoping for download licensing in the future myself, but it will be no time soon.

Just because SC is dragging their feet doesn't mean that others are.
How do YOU know what is going on in the back room of Charbuster??????
I'm pretty sure that SC doesn't unless they have spies there too.
The info came from Chartbuster themselves on their Facebook web page.

Also wondering if you are disc based only just how you keep all your discs from being scratched or worn?

Once again I find it truly amazing that the karaoke manufacturing industry isn't keeping up with the real world. They should do whatever-the-heck they have to to implement the ability to download their music. All they need to do, really, is to look at the CD shelves on any retailer - very few people are buying an entire CD when they only want one song - Napster, Rhapsody, iTunes, etc., are the smart ones, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why someone in the karaoke manu industry hasn't figured out a way yet. It seems that necessity is the mother of invention - those who wanted it created a way to have it in spite of the absolutely outdated methodology of creating 16 to 18-song CDGs full of stuff nobody really wants. This has been such a source of frustration to me, particularly when I look through my books and realize that probably a full 70% of the songs in it have NEVER been sung. (Well maybe not 70 but I'd venture is well over 50%) I will continue to use Selectatrack, even though it is more expensive per song than buying an entire CDG ... but every single song I order gets sung. I don't need "fluff" in my books, and I have a lot of it now.

1) You're absolutely right. Tell you what you should do. When you order a karaoke download- from anywhere- just make sure they download a copy of the U.S. license or it's reference number with each track. Any U.s. Licensed site should be able and willing to do that....

2) Um, ....proper care? Also, backing up a karaoke disc is completely legal as long as it's not used at a second site- just like software.....just in case a disc DOES get sratched. There is also disc doctor, but I have a more professional approach:

Problem solved...

I have this for my discs:

Kept them nice & in working order - work great on all other disc based media as well, especially kids games/dvd's!
