I bring a really nice office chair with me and make myself busy behind the computer. The perception of work makes them think you are more valuable.

..................................................................

The first night at this particular bar, I rode in the front door on my harley, and did the entire show from it. Crowd loved it as a prop. oh, did i mention it is a biker bar!

Until this year I have always stood. It seems I'm experiencing some foot problems. Some of which, I'm sure is due to the cowboy style boots I wear. So to relieve the pain I bought two adjustable DJ stools. I can adjust the height of mine so that from behind my set-up it appears to the audience that I continue to stand. Also my wife bought me some Dr. Scholl’s shoes to wear. I still stand most of the evening, but it’s nice for a couple of minutes to take the load off.

Disagree!

I stand for many reasons and will never sit so long as I am physically able to stand.

I'm not going to going into all of my reasons for doing so, and I have many, just suffice it to say a friend of mine lost a gig for sitting!

so what do you disagree with?

With this
""AND IMHO I agree with the owner, a KJ shouldn't be sitting
""

Dead on. I have a laptop but if you sit on a chair that is table height compatible, you won't be able to run my system. You either have to stand or sit on the dj chair which is a bit higher than a bar stool. I have the feet problems and use the Dr. Scholls as well.

Don't get me wrong, as I stated earlier, I don't sit for the majority of the show, maybe about 25% of the time that I am at my booth. 90% of the songs I go out on the floor for at least a few seconds to hear that sound but more times than not, I mingle. I stand by my statement, I see nothing wrong with sitting unless that is all one does. I do know someone like that too.

I also stand by my statement, if the bar owner fired the host for sitting, he is an idiot. At the very least, he could have expressed his concern with him/her first.

I had an elvis karaoke host at my show earlier this year from New Orleans but I don't think it was you?

My wife and I co-host, and we are both on our feet to run the show. We have fold up legs that go under the rig that bring it up to a standing work hight. We are both moving in and out from behind the console almost constantly while dealing with requests checking the sound and handing off the mics to the singers as we introduce them. The only time we would be sitting would be when we slipped into a seat beside a customer to talk to them, and never very long. We will even occasionally dance with customers, even though there is no dance floor where we are currently hosting. Keeps the energy up.

I am a sitter by necessity, I'm 6'8" tall, and think it would look rediculous to have my equipment 6+' off the ground. So I have a table that holds my laptop, mixer, and player. I sit behind the table to mix the sound, and occasionally walk out to the front area to check the sound. I've never had anyone ask me why I was sitting. I also wear bi-focals, and am lucky I can see the laptop screen from the SITTING position.

Funny thing was, he was in my town (his hometown years ago he told me) for a 40 year class reunion. I'm guessing that would be about your age as well!

I sit, but walk around to check the sound or chat with customers every so often.

Back in the day when I was an "emcee" I always stood. Now I sit, but it's on a high stool with a back on it. I'm at the same level as the singers and can easily get up and move around as needed. My shows are crowded but when the singer is singing nobody is looking at me. Nor do I want them to unless I want to get the crowd into a particular song.

I'm probably about 50/50 between standing and mixing. My table height is low enough that I can't really use the computer much without sitting or my back gets sore. However I usually stand to mix and definitely when addressing the audience I stand up. So I am one of those up and down hosts I guess.
