I am wanting to purchase a new RSQ player and was wondering if someone has a
commendation. I have found some reviews saying that some models are slow to
load. If anyone has url's to reviews that would be nice. If anyone recommends
a model that would be OK. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

RSQ aside for a moment- Are you looking for a single or multi tray?

I am looking at a single tray, but will consider a triple tray model. I want one that will
load the directory of the CDG fast, without going into play on the first song. I have even
looked at some refurbished Pioneer, or JVC CDG players. Price between 200 and 300 $.
It would be nice to have remote control, but not a must. I would like the key change or
pitch feature. I am not really hung up on the RSQ brand.
We have a mixer with 4 balanced inputs, and two stereo line level inputs, this will feed
a powered subwoofer, with a passive speaker on top, and a powered floor monitor.
Thanks for asking.

OK I think I may have it narrowed down to: the VocoPro DVG-888K II. What do you all
think? My system is to be used mostly in a church setting, and I would like to be able to
have the controls out in the audience so the operator can hear the direct sound, of the
singers, and the balance or level of the accompaniment sound track.
The DVG-888K II has a balanced output on the audio, which means you can feed long
lines to the powered speakers. This also means I will need to use a snake for the mic
lines to the mixer. Let's see I seem to have forgot you have to run all the audio to the mixer then to the speaker system, LOL.
Looking forward to all comments.

I have the VocoPro as my back up to my lap top and as my go to disc player. It's amazing. It fits in a 1u space and if your lap top goes out, in a pinch you can use this player to pull songs off the hard drive and play your back up disc collection.

Nice rig for sure.

Hi enzoab thanls for your reply. Which VocoPro do you have. The DVG-888K II has some interesting features, that I think would be quite useful.
KJ MODE automatically cues CD+G Tracks at title screen
Direct Track Access for immediate chapter/track selection
CUE feature allows you to set a custom starting point for playback
I would like to have input from anyone who has used this model.
Thanks for your interest. I know this is not a Pioneer, or JVC, but
I don't consider this unit a cheap player. I really would like to
know how long it takes to load the index. Most cheap machines don't
list the names of the selections. They merely list the total number of
tracks.

OK Thanks for everyone's suggestions on a refurbished Pioneer. I have tried to find those suggested, Pioneer PD-10VG, and Pioneer V-10. I haven't found any of those.
I have about given up on a player, and am thinking of using my laptop using Siglos Karaoke Professional, to run the cd-g's. And probably use Power CD+G Burner, or Karaoke DVD Burner to store the song library. If DVD's are used that could serve as
a backup. On the other hand if the songs are on the hard drive that would have more
capacity depending on the hard drive. Everything I have read on the site forum is positive, and they give accolades to the support. Any comments welcome.
One aspect of any brand is service, I have worked in consumer electronics for over
33 years, and I don't consider a lot of stuff priced $200.00 or more to be throwaway.
I try to look at the manufacturers warranty, I would believe a unit with one year parts
and labor, to be a better unit than one with 90days labor w/one year parts. One vendor had their own factory authorized service, but they don't work on the cd-g players that they sell. If you have read this far you realize I have a different perspective on how to
try and make an informed choice. Again all suggestions are welcome.

P.S. I'll try to do some more research.

not sure myself, but the Cavs 203 usb has been mentioned a few times on this forum. I use the regular 203 to play discs and it's fine, just a little slow loading, but that's what filler music is for! -john

I own the Cavs 203g, whichis the one with the usb hookup. I think (as mentioned) the ONLY drawback to the player is slow loading. But if you have a problem with your laptop, you can hook your harddrive to the Cavs, and still run the show. I use it to play discs that people bring in, and while another singer is up, I set up the song, and hit pause, and when the singer is done, I que up the Cavs, and nobody knows the difference but me.

Thanks for the reply. So if I understand this. If you have a backup player that has a usb
input you can hook it up to the laptop on one of the usb ports, and access the external
hard drive hooked to the laptop. So you could either play from the laptop or the backup player without doing any unplugging or swapping cables. I would like to have this clarified if someone would chime in.
using more than one player at the same time is new to me.

With the setup I have, laptop, external harddrive (music stored), Compuhost (hosting program), Cavs 203g, using a video capture device, I can play everything through the laptop. Harddrive is connected to laptop, Cavs (audio) connected to mixer, Cavs (video) connected to video capture device, which is connected to laptop. That way if someone brings in a disc, I can play it from the Cavs, and (video) will show up on monitor. If for some reason my laptop would crash, I could hook everything to the Cavs player, and still run the show. The show would run slower, but I wouldn't have to shut down. I would be losing my hosting program. This is in theory, I do have a backup laptop available.

So does this come with a schematic?

Seriously, I am currently in the "copying-to-HD" phase of my digital metamorphosis. And as such I have been developing my new configuration. Until now I hadn't thought of using a player with a USB input. Now I have to rethink and possibly add on the new player. And while I know that CAVs are notoriously slow loading, I wonder if other manufacturers' machines might be quicker.

Also your post would lead me to understand that you do in fact have to reconnect the HD to the USB player in the event of laptop failure; is that correct.

Thanks for the new perspective Srnity

Yes, jr, you would disconnect the harddrive from the laptop, and connect it to the player. Like I said, you would lose your hosting program, but could still "theoretically" run the show. I haven't had to do this, so I'm not sure how good I would be at it, maybe I should try it at home and see.

That was going to be my next question; have you had an opportunity to do practice your emergency procedures? I'd be interested to hear how theory compares to practice.

I actually run my show using the CAVS 203G USB playing the music from an attached hard drive. I don't think this is very practical as a backup plan to a laptop. first off the CAVS machine does not play mp3+cdg files or anything thats zipped. The cdg files have to be converted to their propriatary mcg format, and the drive has to be formatted in FAT32.

Then in order to pull up the selections in a timely fashion;
All the files have to be in the same directory.
All the files need to be named seqentually with five digit numbers starting at 00001.
You need to create a "directory" using CAVS software to quickly access the songs using the five digit number.

You could have an additional drive prepared, or an additional directory on your external if it is already formatted FAT32, but then you will still need some way to cross referance your books to the five digit numbers. Or you could just convert your numbering system to theirs.

Like I said doesn't seem very practical to me as a backup.

Yeah, the whole Cavs thing for back up seems like a pain in the behind. Laptops are so cheap now and netbooks are too so buying a backup laptop shouldn't break the bank.

I have an hp 17 inch laptop i got at costco for $649. Then bought a $79 usb powered external to host the songs. I also added the same music selection to the lappies' :c drive as backup.

But of course there are lots of laptops under $500 nowadays.

Good post lshiny, saved me the time and effort. I do have alot of my songs that were taken from scdg, and did use my cavs with them, until I went laptop. That was just for home use. I have converted to zip files, so I guess my theory is FLAWED. Thanks for pointing that out. Although I do still have the original harddrive with the scdg's still in dat format, but I wouldn't have all of my songs, nor would they match my songbooks. Again, thanks!!! Sorry if I steered someone the wrong way.

WOW this is turning into quite an informative thread! Here's my new equipment list.
1-EV SB2A, !-EV ZX1, !-EV SXA100+, !-V2go-100plus, !-Spirit Notepad Mixer by Soundcraft, 4-E835 mikes by Sennheiser, 2-Levelar compressors by ART. I am planning on using a laptop, using Power CD+G Burner, and Siglos Karaoke Professional to host the vocalists. With Power CD+G Burner you can save CD+G tracks to hard disc (in MP3G and ZIP formats) and copy CD+G with single mouse click. I welcome all
comments on the software choices, I haven't downloaded the trial versions yet but will soon. I decided on the V2go player based on features, and low price. It will be mainly
used as a backup player. I have read all the replies. I don't need the scdg's, or the Neo
disk formats. What I am interested in is the ability to store on a hard drive in MP3+G, or
Zip format. I also wanted a player that would be able to acess these files from a usb
hard drive. I noted that others are seeing the fallacy of using proprietary software. KJ's
need a simple way to quickly access songs by title, or artist. Maybe it would even be useful to access by classification. i.e. country, bluegrass, gospel, etc. On a spreadsheet that would be rather easy.
