Just thought I'd see where everyone stands on the subject, since it seems to be a rather hot topic.

I can learn from and enjoy experiences from anyone.
To a small extent a KJ will tell you what you already know.
I am still not sure that I trust a forum that allows ME to be a member.
I will have to pass on this one.

I think if it is "named" KJ's Only, it should be for KJ's only. If not, why the name? But then again, it's not my forum, the owners can do whatever they see fit.

I guess that i am the lone holdout to allow the manus to join in. I don't have mistrust of the manus that some might have and they surely could benefit from out feedback.

The KJ forum was seldom ever used. I'm surprised so many are defending its privacy, but if it means that much to the majority to keep it private I don't mind either way. Maybe the real solution is to add a legal forum.
The funny part is when I wanted to post a question to other KJs I always posted in the Discussion Forum because I knew it would be days before anyone would even think to look in the KJ Forum.

I never cared about being allowed into the KJ Forum before they started moving threads there that I had been following and then I wasn't allowed to see where the thread was going any longer. I can't seem to get into the Singers Forum either and I just stopped trying to make any posts in there because I always get a message saying that I need special permission. Not worth the aggravation. If they don't want me there, I guess I'll just have to live with it.

Am I a KJ? Have only done a couple of shows so far, but will be doing more.
I promise to keep a low profile however.......

There is another forum I read that had some problems kind of similar where too many threads were being created on one controversial topic. They ended up creating one sticky thread at the top of the page for all comments on that topic to go. That seemed to work ok. Another topic had to be completely banned from the site.

I guess I don't really know the answer, or even my opinion on this. I don't see the "draw" to it being KJ's only...I did join, but don't really see the appeal. Just use the discussion forum, it's easier....MrD

Making a Legal Forum sounds like an easy fix that would possibly make everyone happy. The problem being I don't know how much of a headache that is for Phill to do. It maybe a bit of a deterant for him that it would be a lot of work to set up only to find out no one posts in there much.

The forum was fine the way it was before they broke it.
When will you people learn.
IF IA TOPIC DOES NOT INTEREST YOU. DON'T READ IT.
(Sorry for shouting. You just kind of provoked me.)

It's especially not nice to shout when you don't really know what you are talking about. What you are saying is the equivalent of a spammer saying "just hit delete".
The reason you aren't allowed to post just anything you want to a forum is because of something called "signal-to-noise ratio". If there is too much junk to wade through, forums die. The same way email accounts die when they are inundated with spam. Which is why we have "The Lounge" to provide a place for people to post junk.

Then maybe they should have moved the threads to the Lounge instead of an area where SOME PEOPLE aren't allowed to go to??????

I agree. We had a situation where a couple of related topics involving legal aspects arose. That encompased 2-3 topics on the board. Some of them got pretty thick with a lot of comments. But they were still only a few lines on the initial screen.
Now in response to that we have 5 different topic lines dealing with the problem (if there is one). The solution is actually doing as much or more damage to the forum in terms of signal to noise than the initial problem.
For the most part this discussion will go in cycles...
This week we might be talking about piracy and some strong opinions might be exposed. Next month we might be involved in a similar number of posts on if brand X makes good speakers or not. Some people might express just as strong views on that matter.
The things we can all agree on are not going to be worthwhile topics to read (most of the time). We all know those things already. The purpose of a forum is to educate and debate.

(Sorry for shouting. You just kind of provoked me.) It's especially not nice to shout when you don't really know what you are talking about. I have finally found someone that knows what is in my head. You must truly be a God of a man. Quote: What you are saying is the equivalent of a spammer saying "just hit delete".
No. It is saying you have spam. You have the ability to ignore it or read it. Don't you?

You don't understand. When you get a lot spam messages and one good one is buried in it, it is difficult to deal with. Sometimes you miss the message of interest.
It also steals your time, because it takes time to avoid the spam.
So if there is a forum, and nothing (or mostly nothing) except wrangling about legality or some other tiresome topic that is not of interest to the majority, then the forum dies. I doubt you were ever on the JOLT forum, but it died of exactly that affliction.

For myself, rudeness, condescending replies and judgements by a few about what is or should be of interest to the majority is what makes me lose interest. Again, just for myself, I see a major shakeup going on in the industry and changes coming as to how I will be able to order music. I may possibly be more affected by these changes than more established people but I think they will be affected whether or not they want to aknowledge it. The topic was of GREAT interest to myself and it AFFECTS me. Now I realize the fact that it affects me causes some to judge that I have a bad or incompetent karaoke show but I have learned to live with that as no one is here to witness it or be in my situation. I don't equate disagreement with dislike of the person disagreeing.
But I am not sure why a few get to judge what is important to the rest of us and I don't understand why those that found a topic more interesting than others did should be belittled. It doesn't make one feel welcome or supported here and I now only check in when I get a private message. I know that is of no consequence to anyone and the world will go on. But when I see someone who has done nothing but give some good humored relief to this forum being belittled I felt that I wanted to come to his defense.
Not that he needs it.
Carry on.
