I'd like to know if any of you have a certain "catch phrase", or uniqueness to closing your show. We have our closing song that my girlfriend and I sing "Happy Trails", by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Then I say "Thank you for singing with Serenity Now Karaoke. And AS ALWAYS, we wish you Faith, Hope, Peace, and Love, Good Night." Kind of like Don Cornelius used to do at the end of Soul Train. Then I key up the filler music, and we start tearing down. We also have those four words in the corners of our business cards. Do any of you say something "unique" to your show? Just curious.

Depending on the hour I sometimes sing "goodnight sweetheart." I thank the bar staff, I thank everyone for coming and invite them back next week, and ask them to drive carefully or call a cab if needs be.

Not me - I'm always trying to get in as many singers as possible. Towards the end of the night I always have people bugging me if they will get their last song in or not. My signature closing is always. Thanks for coming out for karaoke tonight. I'll be back on _____ days. The bar is still open until 3am, so keep on partying and drive safe. Short and sweet and I'm out of there. LOL

at times i open with "disclaimer" from the offspring..when a singer is taking too long to get to the stage i will hit "intermission" also taken from the same album. I have them on my hot buttons so all i have to do is click them.
I sometimes close playing "closing time". if i have time and a voice left I sometimes sing "cold gin" only sing it as "closing time again" inserting other ad libbed wording in the song. Im careful about the type of crowd i use this on. it can make people want to party more.

Got the instrumental track (and vocal track for timing) directly from the artist with permission to create a karaoke track for our company out of "the Closing Song" by Red Peters.... (which is not his real name obviously, but a stage name)

It's not something you're gonna play with children around, but we have a different "clean" song that we play called 'The End - It's A Song" by the Teen Angels (a local group) which sounds like a 50's song:

We're done the show is over, this is the end
Come back someday, but right now go away
We all laughed...
over cocktails,
And if you don't pay the check,
we're gonna put you in jail....
So unless you have some money to lend,
Goodbye, Adios, this is the end....

(and it goes on....)

I often do a track or two that is instrumental only to close things.

I usually tend to run 10-15 minutes past last call and the final song is going on when I am tearing down the TV monitors, mics and stands, and collecting binds if I have not done that already.

I do a lot of movie songs especially older ones which are clearly "end", its over songs in terms of tempo etc. This will only be for 1-2 songs and no longer than 8 minutes.

Since it is past closing, the songs are chosen to NOT keep the energy up, but to get rid of it and clear out the bar. I dont do it if I have an early show followed by a band or DJ.

Tell them to get their hineys outa there!! hehe...just kidding! My closing at my shows is to thank eveyone for coming and supporting me and "the venue". Come see us again next time, bring friends with you, we can never have too many friends! Drive safe, and then most important, tell everyone "Luv ya lots, goodnight".

Simple, and personal, builds for the future (i think anyway) and lets them know we care about them.

I usually play Journey's "Turn Down The World Tonight" to signify the end of my shows.

I think this song is hysterical to play at the end of a gig. Unfortunately it's not suitable for where I am now. The bartenders love it !

I always close my shows with "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye.

I find it impossible to be in a bad mood leaving the bar when the last thing you hear is "Let's Get it On!!!"

Usually it's whoever my last slip that I have time for is the closing song. Announce all announcements & sometimes will sit & BS with customers, sometimes will give hugs & handshakes & take off.
If there is extra time before shutting down, we ALWAYS have someone yelling Freebird for a closing group song, in which sometimes we have had up to 20 people on stage closing out the night.

What a great idea - I may try out doing a bar group song at the end of the night to close. I'd just invite up who ever wanted to help sing a song of my chosing. That way I could get in a bunch of people before close.

I'm a hugger too. Most people will let me know when they are leaving, so I can take them out of rotation. Through the night I hug a lot of people goodbye before they leave. I always wonder what that must look like to a newbie. I don't want it to appear that I have a lot of regulars that I may favor, but then I think maybe it comes off as it's a friendly crowd. Either way I guess things won't change, so I hope it is a good thing.

Our closing number; “God Bless the U.S.A.” tends to go over well with the more mature audiences; especially at the American Legions and VFWs

And sign off (as the music fades) with “Goodnight folks. Take care of yourself. And just as important, take care of each other”

Karaoke is the only place/time I've seen this "hugging". I don't know why, and I don't find fault with it, but I do find it curious that this is the only place/time I experience it in such mass and quantity. :?

We also do God Bless The U.S.A as a group song to end the night. I thank everyone for coming and let them know we'll be back next week.

I see it more often everywhere these days - not just karaoke. Usually a handshake pulled into a quick hug, talking between friends of both genders - same as well, not talking like casual aquaintences.

That's funny. I had this conversation the other day when I said, "I get hugs and kisses from the ladies, and handshakes and guy hugs from the guys."

As a host, providing a memorable good time for people endears you to their hearts IMHO. Its that "warm fuzzy" you get from people that brings it on. They smile when they see you and are sad when its time to say goodbye. A hug is just a logical way to express this... and while I feel so passionately that what we do is important and meaningful. :D

After the last song of the night, I close out by playing Frank Sinatra's "East of the Sun, West of the Moon."
It's a great song that just does not want to end, much like many karaoke shows. My folks love it, they sing along and grab somebody to dance with. It's closed every show of mine for six years.
