I know this might get moved to the KJ Private section but here goes.

Since several venues in the Knoxville, Tennessee area have been named in an infringement suit brought by Sound Choice I and am %100 and dics based and for sure legal, I felt that the general public should know about the suit. I guess the bars and KJs that are possibly illegal in my area might like to know as well, sssooooooo I called the local paper and one of the major TV news outlets. The paper blew me off but a TV station reporter called me back to get a little more info. After I emailed him some background of the local suit and general info about piracy he was more than interested. On Friday, I had a face to face meeting with the reporter and his producer and they have decided to come out to my show on wednesday and do a story about piracy.

I called the bar and they are happy since it might give them some positive FREE publicity as well.

The story will run at the end of the week I hope during prime time.

I'll let everyone know how it turns out Wednesday night.

Congrats!
Would be cool if we could see the story too!
Any chance of recording it and throwing it up on Youtube or maybe the station has their own video section online?

Kudos for your effort Rumbolt!! Is it safe to ask what station it is (cause I wanna Tivo that for sure)? Definitely hope it all goes well for you. If they happen to want any more "backing" opinions on the subject, tell them to drive down 411 and take a left :D !

Hey, that's great news. If you are able to put any "slant" on the story, introduce the human element to it - how piracy is not something that happens "out there" and it is not a victimless crime or one that affects only megabig corporations. It affects "homeown" people like local KJs who get run out of business because of illegal competition undercutting prices. It affected over 70 employees at Sound Choice who lost their jobs when our mounting losses couldn't sustain our operations. Send them to the KIAA website for further background information ( www.thekiaa.org ) and have them review the Phoenix AZ lawsuit. You should also point out that a KJ running illegal products exposes his bar to being a contributory infringer. The bar could be named in a lawsuit by allowing such criminal activities to continue.

Email me at info@soundchoice.com and I'll send you a copy of the lawsuit that was filed so the station can have background information. Good luck and I hope that they follow through.
Kurt

That is pretty much how I presented the story to them. I already directed them to KIAA and I did mention the Phoenix suit as well and also the suit in NC. I will shoot you an email so I can get a copy of the suit to them.

As soon as the story is shot I will let you know which station has it. Trust me I don't want anyone to miss it.

Refer the reporter to the KS discussion forums and mag articles on the subject. Also you might mention stories done by Northwest Karaoke Guide Magazine from Seattle. Both could be some GOOD background for his story---also the thread where Kurt from Soundchoice posts his lawsuit information. Once the story gets on TV Ill best the newspaper guy calls you back.

You might also contact any other papers you have there other than the one you originally contacted. Like an entertainment mag. They must have them in Nashville, what with all the entertainment that goes on there. Bet those mags would be VERY receptive.

Also contact some major TalkShow radio stations. They might be interested in the subject too.

Also you might contact a major NETWORK. Who knows--they may be interested in such a thing--since it does have NATIONAL implications.

I did link the reporter to KS forum and I do know he has been here.

I am pretty sure the newspaper will call me, since I emailed him that a TV station has picked up the story.

Never thought much about national network but I am not beyond making a few calls.

Why must you people not only read but post on a topic that bores you so much.
It shows an incredible lack of intelligence.

It also appears to insult you that it is of concern to others.
Leave them be.
Get off their back.

Jerry12x makes an excellent point.

We no longer have the former annoying trolls that ruined every topic or thread with their forced opinions and unsupportive remarks.

Skip over the topics that don't concern you or aren't of interest to you, or at least if you post, be supportive and understanding of other people's choices and concerns. Show a little ALOHA for our brothers in this industry.

Great News Rumbolt !!!

The bars in this lawsuit are in my neck of the woods. Its about time these pirates disappear and the establishments that use them be punished.(even though I know two more pirates will pop up in their place and it won't phase some ignorant bar owners).

I believe one of the KJs that serviced some of these bars is the same one who came in and trashed my show to management, then undercut me trying to get my gig. I have no problem with competition as long as we are all on a level playing field.

Rumbolt what a smart move ! I'm hoping the telecast gets streamed some how so we can all see it. It would be great if we had a link to it to the site.

I'm excited for you - keep us informed!

Why would i be a nutcase if I operate within the law? The story being covered is about Karaoke and Piracy, not about me. If they use my show as an example of a legal show, I might benefit.

Rumbolt, you mean you're not afraid of other local KJ's "retaliating" against you? Isn't that the reason the KIAA said they're not posting their members on their site?

Be careful at your next show...you might find a bunch of karaoke "pirates" looking to beat you over the head with their external hard drives! :D :D :D

I think what Jamkaraoke means is that the news crew uses you as an example of a "KJ" and doesn't mention anything about who you are and/or that you are legal... but simply uses you as a video backdrop all the while talking about pirates.....

You'll be a celebrity all right. And in that case, everyone will recognize you as "that guy on TV when they were talking about pirate karaoke people. Hmmmm..."

Sometimes even the best of intentions can end very, very badly...

Remember the News company's job is to make the news as "exciting" as it can be... no matter what the story is.

This is the kind of spotlight this story needs. Real attention. The news can get skewed, so yes make sure they're spinning things in a proper direction. For you ... and the cause!!!!!!
