Isn't that the reason the KIAA said they're not posting their members on their site? Be careful at your next show...you might find a bunch of karaoke "pirates" looking to beat you over the head with their external hard drives!
I can't speak for the KIAA and their intended actions keeping names quiet.
No, I am not scared! I say bring it on if that's the way they want to play.
If I went through life being afraid of my competition, I'd just stay at the house.
I'm not putting them out of business, they are by their own actions.

Ok, everyone here needs to relax, my efforts are for the good of us all. I consider

You have my vote of confidence. Then send them to Northwest Washington. They'd better bring them a BIG wagon....

Hey rumbolt,
I believe I saw you post somewhere that you were going to take some of those KIAA flyers to venues around your area.
Did you ever do that & are any of the venues named in the SC lawsuit venues that you may have given KIAA flyers to?
Just curious...
Also, I think it's great what you are doing!

Rumbolt... I agree with what Chip wrote. Sometimes, the News reporters put a spin on a story, or they present it differently. I have seen a few stories (over the years) in my area, where they tried to portray Karaoke in the news, and it was done poorly. I think it's great that you're going to get some press out of this, but as Chip pointed out, make sure that if the reporter is going to film you and/or the club where you host at, that he doesn't omit certain details (that could either make you look like a pirate (as Chip pointed out), or imply that you are the only Legal Operator out there (which I am sure you are not)).

Good luck Rumbolt! Make sure they get a good shot of all your legal discs on camera and maybe even some receipts so they can see what kind of investment a legit host has to make to run a show.

The story being covered is about Karaoke and Piracy, not about me. If they use my show as an example of a legal show, I might benefit.
Just too clarify : News is NEWS if only exciting and controversial. My point was to make sure any interview you give is not chopped and edited to give that WACKY feel that makes news exciting. I didn't mean to say you're a nut case
Nobody (general public) really don't care if KJ BUBBA has an illegal HD unless he was arrested and fined A GAZILLION dollars . Sort of like when they arrested GRANDMA for the Illegal Napster downloads her under age grandson was doing.
NOw Thats was a story

None of the venues that I have called on are named in the current filings but several that i have called and given flyers to have questionable KJs alredy working there either as in house employees operating venue owned equipment (which means the venue is liable) or is contracting a KJ (and the bar may or may not be held liable also).
I did have a bar manager laughed at me when I handed them the KIAA brochure. They said there was no such thing as "illegall karaoke". And to beat it all the kj that has a gig there is a known pirate. (that's all I will say about that)

Can you say D-E-N-I-A-L? These people will plead ignorance until they're handing over the money or the harddrive. Oh well. Sucks to be them.

pm4877 @ Fri Oct 16, 2009 11:13 am wrote: Well, how did it go???
It went very good! The reporter did about a 10 minute interview with me before my show started. He shot some video of my equipment and the of my folder full of discs. (it will be edited for broadcast of course) The when my show started he shot video of several of my singers including my resident Elvis impersonator complete with white jumpsuit (he heard the tv cameras was coming out). They also shot some video. But the bonus of the night was that Norbert and Deb Stovall (the owners of Chartbusters) came out to support me and the industry. They did a brief interview with the station as well. I also need to give a shout out to David Grimes and his wife who also came out. David is in charge of Public Relations @ Chartbusters. Earlier that day I had a great conversation with Kurt Slep from Sound Choice about the event. He is also very supportative of the cause.
The segment will probably be broadcast week after next. They want to promo it for a few days prior and it is also sweeps week (ratings time). The video will be available on their website so as soon as it broadcast I'll post a link for everyone.

Proud of you.
With Chartbusters involved they can only really edit it the way it is.
I heard it first on KS.
