If you use Excel could you please explain how to put things in ABC order. What I am asking for help on is this........
If I type in by song in one column and then in the column beside it I go ahead and type in the artist if I highlight both columns, will it only sort into ABC order, the song title and carry the artist through..................or do I just type in the songs, sort into ABC order then have to go back and type in the artist name by the now, alphabetized song list. So far, we have 650 songs.
Whew. I just don't know how to use Excel. Not interested in buying a songbook program right now unless you know of one that is free/shareware type.
Thanks, Vicki

You'll want to sort by column.

If you highlight just one column it will alphabetize just that column. If you highlight everything it will alphabetize the first column and carry the info from the other columns with it.
I do a lot of "Cutting and Pasting" of entire columns when I do the alphabetizing. Once you have your title in coumn A and artist in Column B then you would click on the top left square to highlight everything and alphabetize. That gets your titles in order and carries the artist with it. Then cut Column A and paste it to C. Then cut Column B (artist) and paste it to A, highlight everything and alphabetize it again. This alphabetizes the Artists and carries the titles with them but now under each artist the titles will be in alphabetical order instead of random.
And remember--if you accidently mess it up and think you seperated the artists from the titles or vice versa then you can always go up to "edit" and click "undo sort."

Another tid-bit here:
If you happen to be typing in "disc numbers" in any of the other columns, type in the first number, let's say "43-1", and then take the mouse pointer and put it on the "line" of the lower right corner of that number box. Hold your left mouse button down and drag it to the last song of that disc you that just wrote in, and it will automatically number it "43-1 through 43-15" for you, without you having to type all those numbers in yourself.
You might have already known that, or you may not be adding cd-g numbers, but I'd thought I throw that out to ya', just in case!

Speaking disc numbering in Excel, make sure you preface your disc numbers with at least three (3) zeros (i.e. 0001, 0010, 0100, 1000,). In doing so you’ll be able to sort 9,999 discs successfully. Four zeros might be better if you plan to catalog more than 10,000 discs.
I prefaced mine with only two zeros and once I reached 1,000 discs, I couldn't sort by disc number any longer. Immediately after disc #099 it goes to disc #1000 and then fits in the 100's in increments of 10. It's difficult to explain this clearly but suffice it to say that if you preface with enough zeros you shouldn’t have any problems with sorting by number.
I find this annoying when I create a DJ playlist and I want to pull my discs in sequential order. Excel doesn't cooperate.
If anyone knows of a way to override this default sorting process please let me know.
