There is still a difference here as far as karaoke. A person illegally downloading a karaoke track doesn't find that they like it and then buy the real download. There isn't a download for them to buy. Again, the graphics make karaoke fall into a different category from strictly DJ music and archaic laws are preventing the manufacturers from providing downloads for commercial puposes. Seeing a future of running a show on instant downloads, at least from US manufacturers, is still wishful thinking at this point.

I say ..DO AWAY WITH KARAOKE MANUS!!!!

Simple...Artist releases a new SONG and you can find it on many Itunes type outlets for $1.99-$2.99 --Why not just DELETE the LEAD VOCAL TRACK and add a GRAPHIC file and release it for $3.99-$5.99 ? ---record companies and artists etc make more PROFIT$$$$$$$$

Karaoke Hosts and consumers get a BETTER quality recoding at a reasonable price WIN WIN.......OH I'm sorry the KARAOKE MANUS might have to sell one of their Mercedes or cash in their stock they purchased with the MONEY they made over the last 20 years. LOL .... It's all about CORPORATE GREED vs the little man LOL

when i was a kid i used to sit next to the tv with my tape recorder recording the music chart show...(top of the pops it was called here in the uk.) then later i would play it back, then go out and buy the singles i liked. this practice was just as illegal as p2p...i reckon most p2p downloading is just modern society's version of what i did as a kid....

No mate. It was not illegal.
The price of blank tape was put up and the extra was given to the PRS.
Thats why we are always told to record our favourite programs.
Never heard it has changed.

The government back then sort of legalised us.

Sure they do just ask Big Machine Records (Taylor Swift recording and karaoke manu).

I don't know how many artists they have but I'll bet they are making a killing on her stuff, and what's best is it is the the original artists music.

The manus filled the gap that existed then because I really think artists and the entire recording industry machine look down on karaoke and do/did not truthfully realize the benefit to their artists. It would be very interesting to determine if there is a connection between purchased tracks and the songs that are most popular, and most often sung, at karaoke shows. I do not understand how more artists are not following Taylor Swift's lead on this one. Truthfully, there are some albums I wouldn't buy even if they did offer all the tracks in karaoke format, but there are some artists who would truly benefit. (The artists who are able to release an album that is great quality with a majority of hit songs.)

Think about all the EXTRA COSTS that go into creating a Karaoke track. Musicians / Recording Companies / licenses / Studio time / and finaly the creation of the lyric or graphic file. Everything besides the graphic file HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE with the orginal recordiing. Record companies are missing the boat ..... UNLESS THEY MAKE MORE MONEY ON LICENSE FEES ETC ETC.

It is not always the record company that is stubborn.
It can also be the artists manager.

Again, I think artist management and the artists themselves often scorn karaoke and don't realize the extra exposure an artist receives -- even if the song isn't sung as well as the original artist. Think about the number of shows on any given night across the country and the exposure to new and unfamiliar artists we receive. Unless you are a radio listener, you're not going to hear those songs. (Btw, another gripe of mine, 'industrialized' radio - all stations owned by conglomerates, running same tracks over and over ...)

I'd be curious to have a conversation with people like Don Henley and the other artists who openly broadcast their hatred of karaoke, and refuse to license. Very odd to me, especially in these times when album sales have dropped through the floor.

The Zoom Eagles disc is one of our most used and people see it as expressing their love for the music so to disdain that is a slap in the face to Eagles fans.

But even having the artists realease their own karoke doesn't solve the download issue. Somehow the court case that found karaoke to be a graphic art has to be overturned.
