Just wanted to hear opinions on this

Do You Rip the vocal tracks ?

I Would like to hear the reasons you do or do not .

I DO NOT rip the vocal tracks, because during a show, I don't want to (accidentally) que up the vocal version instead of the backing track. I've seen it happen at shows, and it's NEVER a good thing.

Because it's karaoke.

I don't want to accidentally make a mistake either! Once they are off the track, I don't need to worry about adjusting the balance or anything.

Haven't to date. If I didn't have a vocal version for all songs then their is no point. Probably less than 1/8th of my collection is actually multiplexed with vocals.

No, waste of hdd space, and like it was said don't want to que up the wrong song.

Ha a "competitor" that lased about 6 months, and 1/2 her songs were the vocal version, but weird thing is she didn't have the same songs without the vocals.....HMMMMMMM

Nutech was notorious about creating discs that were multiplex only versions.
I have several of these songs in my library. Have yet to have any of the ones I don't have nonmultiplexed duplicutes by a different brand but if I get the request I will explain that neither my software or mixer will take out the vocals to the songs if they complain. I will also explain that there isn't another version available for the song or I would have it.

I guess I'm all by myself here...I do rip the vocal tracks! For a few reasons:

(1) much like when I was just discs, sometimes before a show or durning a no singers time or if a DJ requests was made for a song I didn't have, but had on Karaoke....or the request was made and someone wanted to hear the song for whatever reason..I'd play the tracks w/ vocals to encourage, to learn, to pass the time...

(2) it's also my back up, if the disc is trashed, lost, broke, stole....I have the complete disc to make another one.

If those files you ref to are true multiplex; ie vox on one side and backing track on the other, then you can still use it for karaoke. There are 2 points where the vocal can be removed. The 1st is at the laptop mixer; slide the soundcard mixer to the right if the vocal is on the left side. This can also be done on the mixing board.; pan hard right on the music channel if you input is stereo. You will get backing music coming out from the right speaker only.If you use 2 mono channels for the music input, mute the one that is with vocal. In this case backing music will come out from both speakers.

There was also some brands that were multiplexed in such a way that you had to know how to switch your player from digital to analog (or the reverse I can't remember). It could only be done by the remote & once the switch was made, you either had vocals or you didn't. The laserdiscs were heavily multiplexed this way & I have a few cdg's as well.

Yes I rip the vocals and have them noted in my database as multiplex versions. My program currently ignores all multiplex versions so they are generally just taking up space, however I have used them in the past as either filler or practice music. Low down on my list of program updates is having them available in my show as 'sing along' songs for those who don't quite have the stones for full blown karaoke.

Yes I rip them and use them to put out a few tunes before Karaoke starts. Keeps me from having to switch from one HD to the other. When I rip my CDGs I take the time to rename the vocals with (V) after the title. With Sax N Dottie I can just put (V) in the search section and it will pull up all songs that are vocals. Hope this helps.

If you accidentally play a vocal track (or have CDGs that are ONLY with vocal tracks as the default), MTU Hoster has this great little "VOCAL/NO VOCAL" switch. Works great.

I have them on my Hard Drive and use them for a few people that cant sing worth a crap, it helps them out and makes it easier on the crowds ears as well, it started when I cued one up by accident I stopped it and the girl said no leave it in there.
