Ever notice when you go to get ANY job, one of the questions that you are asked, " Have you EVER filed ANY claims against a FORMER employer?"

Actually, no. This has question has NEVER been asked of me, in Karaoke, or otherwise.

And even so...what is there to be ashamed about? Yes I sued him...because he didn't pay me!

Just as a bar owner would go after a patron who rang up a $250 bar tab and stiffed THEM if they knew who they were and where to find them!

I would think the only venue that would ask such a question is one that might be considering certain practices that may result in that happening to them; or one that had had it happen previously. In other words, better that they know if they ask, as you won't become their next target. As an aside, I have never had a venue ask that of me. Fortunately for me I have not ever had to deal with getting stiffed either.

I have never been asked if I have filed any claims against a former employer.
Never in my entire life. I don't expect I ever will, either.
Where we are, there a laws about what you can ask prospective employees.

And let's not forget that as a KJ we are rarely considered to be or treated as a an employee! And only employees fill out employment applications. Right?

So, even if the venue's employment application asked about suits brought against former employers, I wouldn't expect as a KJ that any of us would ever be given the application!

Hello All,

happended to me one time on a fairly new gig.

I showed up and they asked me NOT to set up as they weren't sure how many people where going to show up. I did anyway and said
"Don't worry about ... I'll be ready if someone does" ...
About two hours into the gig the gave me go ahead to head home.
We never discussed any fee but I sent them a bill for my time.

the check came the next week and I never showed up again.

Oh well.

Jason

Jason, I don't want to derail this thread, but this sounds totally incredulous.

You had a new gig. Was it supposed to be one time only or something every week? You never discussed any fee? Why would KJ for hire not agree to all of the terms and conditions of their performance at the time the deal was done? That includes the times you play, the length of the agreement (one time, weekly, 4 weeks, etc.) and the amount you get paid.

If I arrived and was told not to set up, I would have done as they asked, but demanded my money then and there for the night's agreed performance.

And if you agreed on a weekly show and then never came back again? Didn't they expect you the following week.

Sounds kinda screwy!

You'll have to buy the book to get the details, I think.

Bye all.
