Hey every body,
I am new to the scene, and I am trying gather all the equiptment to run a karaoke show. I have the same Usb Alesis Mixer and set as the photo but I too am getting static from my speakers when the singer is singing, I am going in to the mixer USB and would like to go through my 1/4 inch so that I can eq the sound from my board. What would you all suggest that I get an audio interface or just come out of the headset channel, like I read someone else does. :withstupid:

The Lexicon Alpha is highly regarded and not very expensive.

You can also just get a 1/8" TRS to dual 1/4" TS adapter and use the 1/4" inputs as you mentioned. This may not sound quite as good but it works for lots of people.

Are you using a wired or wireless mic?

Strictly based on the symptom you describe, it would indicate that the microphone is overdriven. More often I have seen this occur with wireless mics. Some people have a tendency to increase the receiver volume to MAX which will show as clipping on the mixer.

Bottom line is that overdriven mics will degrade the singer's vocals by making them sound scratchy; as you described in your post.

This is just my take on the topic based on limited input; your mileage may vary.

I use my Alesis Multimix 8 USB every week and it's a quiet mixer, no static or noise at all. It's a fantastic small mixer. I DO NOT use the internal usb soundcard built into the mixer, I use either a Creative Labs X-Fi usb sound card or a Behringer UCA 202 USB sound card plugged into my laptop. Both work very well with zero problems. I go from either sound card with a 1/8" to dual 1/4" cable into the mixer either into a single stereo channel or two mono channels.

You need to check your mic cables and speaker cables. See what your gain is set at and make sure you're not over driving your speakers or under powering them. More specific information about what you are using would be helpful in diagnosing what is causing your problem.
