Interesting. I have seen so many triple-trays play 1x burns like mike without trouble (including my own) that I thought they did that reliably.
Are you sure they are 1x burns? Before I started doing that, I had more trouble.

Yes, of course. But a defect of Pacemaker is that it provides no feedback to the controlling application that it 1) is installed and 2) accepted the OLE control you gave it.
So if the invocation of Sax 'n' Dotty's is not perfect, and Winamp is started up *after* Sax 'n' Dotty's, then Pacemaker won't get the key change message and Sax 'n' Dotty's won't know it didn't. The result? The KJ thinks they did the key change, and nothing happens. I've seen it any number of times. Now if I see Sax 'n' Dotty's, I don't submit songs where I really need a key change (i.e. my few down 2 songs).

I can't start Sax & Dotty's without winamp starting up automatically right along with it so I guess that's why I have never experienced that particular problem with the key changer. Just lucky I guess.

Yep they were my own backups at the time. Played fine on the one machine, not on the other. Have heard that from other JVC/RSQ users over the years as well.

I had some problems with my discs not playing on a KJ's JVC single tray player. Another singer told me that he burns his discs at a much higher speed and they always seem to play well on that KJ's JVC machine. Now I always write down on my discs what speed I burned them at. My 4X burns seem to play better on that guy's machine than my 1X burns. Go figure

JVC single tray (gold face) is the only one player that would not play my burnt disc. My discs are VCD.

I use a RSQ-MV 333 Triple tray that plays anything. Well so far so good.
I've had discs given to me that wouldn't play correctly because they were in such bad shape. I always look at the disc first to see what shape it's in. If it obviously has many scratches or even a crack I'll let them know ahead of time. I do not want to be blaimed if it has difficulties. It is extremely extremely rare that I've experienced a problem, but if it does happen it isn't a big deal. People are usually aware already that their disc isn't in good shape and ask that I use it any way. No problem if it's bad I pop it out and move on to the next singer while that one picks a song from the book. If once in a blue moon this happens no one cares. If it happened nightly I could see it as being a problem.

Our JVC triple wouldn't play some burned discs but the Pioneer seems to play about anytthing. As Babs does, the boyfriend looks at the customer's disc and if it is scratched he warns them that it might not play but we'll give it a try. Sometimes one won't but so far the world hasn't ended.
I spend a lot of time trying to pick out songs for our books and so far I've got about a few hundred correct and the other 5,000 are losers. Guess I don't have as much to be proud of as others. Am happy to have people bring in what they want to sing.

I stopped going to one place because their replacement player won't play my burnt discs. When the owner asked me why I don't frequent his pub anymore I told him why. I have a choice of not going to a place; I have a choice of where I want to sing and that choice is very dependent on if they can play my disc/usb pendrive. It is a bad attitude to tell singer who bring their own disc to stay home. Sorry I have to disagree..you are ATTENDING THEIR SHOW..NOT YOURS..it it disrespectful to go into any show with your discs... I either sing something from their book or suggest a song they should get.....As most know this is a big NO NO at my shows..again MY show...My equiment...ect... should I go on..What is funny I have had only two times where discs where brought in ..and they learned quickly.....they stayed and sang and everything was fine. The other KJ in town uses computer and it wont read discs so Im not worried about them going any where else... Also I have the biggest and best selection in town..so I know where singers are going to come.. I respect the places/bar that can play my discs/usb pendrive; I don't disrespect those that can't; I just don't go there. When I run a show I welcome singer's that bring their own dicsc. I don't see them as being disrespectful. You may have the biggest collection of songs in town but you would not have the 50 songs that I want (can) to sing. Exactly. There is absolutely NO disrespect with a singer wanting to enjoy a night of karaoke singing songs from their own disc that they own. NONE WHATSOEVER>! Biggest bunch of crap I ever heard. There is NO WAY a kj can have and own every song out there - especially since probably over half - at least with certain manus - are no longer even available anymore. I don't understand some kj attitudes, it's almost an ego thing - "hey I spent all this money on my library, you will sing from my library only?" I myself have spent tons of cash over the years & if someone want to sing from their disc, then it's completely fine. Even if I have the same version - I will let them know that I have it so they have the option of not having to bring it in next time, but don't whine if they do. Don't matter to me, I will take those customers off your hands. They are MORE than welcome to come and spend their money at our shows.
Take those customers off my hands.. ..now that funny im sorry but my shows stand on its own merit..I dont have an ego either but I do know ...my show can stand up against any show...over the past ten years I have watch several companies come and go...No ..broadway...no new stuff.....no show... .

Wow what a topic.
Here's a question.
Somebody walks into your venue and wants you to play their burnt disc because you just don't happen to have the song they want to sing, maybe it's to new or what ever.
So you say OK and play it. It just happens to be something from Sound Choice and a rep from SC happens to be in the crowd and notes that you are computer based, then he notices that you have played this song and but doesn't notice that it was a customers disc.
You get named in a lawsuit claiming you played this song and you need to produce the disc, which you can not because it was a customers disc. They don't care you played it and are responsible for the content of the show and you don't remember or know the person that had the disc. Just what do you do now?
Which is why I don't play customers discs.

I don't think it is as casual as Sound Choice just walking in and taking pictures of anyone and everyone. I think they are working on tips and have done some legwork first. They would probably be looking at your books to see if you had the song listed to add to their proof. It would also be pretty obvious to anyone who was watching that a customer handed you the disc and you gave it back. If they are paying enough attention to what you are doing to take a photo then I imagine they would notice.
If you are legal, otherwise, it would be pretty lame for them try to prove you are a pirate over ONE song. I think they are looking for more than that. I don't plan to be intimidated from providing a service for customers because of what MIGHT be misinterpreted.

I bring my own cds to a karaoke, because I am an opera singer and have a very difficult time finding an arrangement that fits my style of voice. For instance Gershwin's Summertime has been moved from the traditional arrangement to Jazz, Country and Rock. I can't sing in those formats, also some of my cds cost $55 and I copy them over to save the orginals from being damaged by different karaoke machines, which has occured.
So everyone is not being lazy, I just find it easier to use my own versions.
Thanks

Okay, so computer based people, why not have a screen shot that says, "The following music is a privately owned disc, not in my library. The singer has brought in this privately owned music and has requested that I play it for them." ...Or something like that. In fact, I do announce when someone brings in a song that I have in my book and I play it, that "So-and-so has provided their own music for the evening. You will not find this song/these songs in my library."
Yes, a pirate could run a screen like that before every song, I suppose, so it does not really let you off the hook, but in the hypothetical situation described above, if someone walks up and hands you a disc it is easier to imagine that that screen shot would be valid. Kind of a disclaimer? Would be easy to do that.

Well with a computer you can prove or disprove that something was ever on the hard drive. Computer forensics is pretty amazing.

I've actually thought about this -
90% of the regs leave their discs with me and wouldn't care if I used them to prove I had the CDG. My problem lies more with getting my CDG library organized. I have CDGs in my car, under my bed, in a couple different boxes etc... I'm not real organized for sure. I have lots of CDGs that aren't even on my hard drive too. When I started ripping onto a hard drive I didn't even know about all this legal stuff. I figure if I can't find a few of them oh well I'll have to deal with the consequences. Someday I'll sift through them all and get it together.

Hi Everyone, I like to bring my own discs to be sure that the songs are in my key. I have heard "I saw her standing there" in E and C. I like to know I wont need a re-start due to the songs key. Thanks
