Why does someone HAVE to comment in order to show interest? 600 views show interest IMO!

600 views are good, but unless it's 1 person doing 450 views on their own.....

The only downside is that there's many KJs that do not give updates of their new songs. And of course "Wow there's a new Pearl Jam..... I think I'll still do Black" "There's a lot of new country out there, but I think I'll still sing Friends in Low Places" Can't help it that new songs don't appeal to the majority of non-serious singers.

All I can say to that is some people need to get out of their comfort zone and learn new music

I think it's fun to learn new songs. For so long I didn't really pay attention and think there was anything worthwhile out there. Now that I'm studying it for "the business" I have become addicted to some of the new people. I'm quickly approaching 57.

Yet we get in youngun's and many of them sing the old stuff. We got some people in that weren't regulars to our show on Thursday and they chewed me a new one for not having every Merle Haggard song and not having enough Montgomery Gentry. I said, "We've got 'One in Every Crowd'," and they had never heard of it. I had seen them do it on TV and thought it was a perfect karaoke song but so far no takers.

Maybe we will have a New Song night and give prizes to anyone who learns one.

Too many songs that don't get sung. I'm just plain not doing it anymore. I buy by request now. Everytime I gather my books up at the end of the night and think about how many songs have NEVER been sung it confirms in my mind that single tracks is the way to go, and only when someone asks. I love new music, too, but as any female singer will tell you, there isn't the equivalent content for females as far as new releases, unless you sing R&B, techno pop, etc. I find myself gravitating toward singing the new male releases just because there are so many to choose from. It's always been this way and won't change.

BTW, there is a local guy who shares my 1st wed of the month kid's venue who does guitaraoke (SP?) on the other Wednesdays. I asked him for a song list because I thought I might go and sing with him (to support the venue)... I asked specifically about female songs. Would you believe out of the 5 pages of small typed titles, there were appr 20 songs for women? Come on..... Missing out on a major percentage of participants by doing that.

Hmmmm....don't have the range to pull off Alicia Keyes but I love Shakira and I've attempted a few Beyonce, Amy Winehouse, Rihanna and am getting a bit retro with Gloria Estefan in spanish. Also discovered the Kings of Leon are in my range without having to key change--have to change the words a bit on Sex on Fire but it is fun to go over the top with that one. Oh--and I've done a few Duffy and one Lily Allen. And Kelly Clarkson although that takes a RANGE. And Pink, my new heroine. i LOVE "Who Knew" and "Please Don't Leave Me."

Worst of all, help me people, I asked an 18 year old for some good song suggestions and ended up doing a Katy Perry. Had to change the words in "Waking Up in Vegas" to "I lost my SENIOR I.D." "I lost my FAKE I.D." was hard to pull off at 56.

LOTS of songs out there. People are just paying attention to the men, I guess.

Our singers DO learn new music - the music that THEY request that we've never had - doesn't necessarily mean 'new' as in todays music. Majority of todays music isn't very good nor requested/wanted - and this is coming from the 20 YO crowds. Although I will be getting the new Alice In Chains songs Check My Brain as this 'new' song HAS been requested quite a bit.

Speaking of Alice--I got "Man In the Box" by SBI for our Megadeath guy and he loved the guitar on it but said it was missing the chorus. Barmaid went up to help him and concurred. I thought SBI was IT for Alice in Chains? That isn't one of the groups I have been studying-- I must admit-- but I picked "Man in the Box" based on a 100 best songs of the 90s or somesuch list and hit pay dirt. It was done the second week after it came in.

For us, "the younger people" means people in their 40s. So even though we are in an oldies/country dive we have some people that were happy to see us get in 80s and 90s rock and they started requesting more. I can understand people not thinking new music is as good but what gets me are the people who love someone like Merle Haggard yet haven't follwed him all the way through and have never heard of his new songs. I happen to like "America First."

I forgot I do Lady Gaga also but think she got lucky with "Just Dance" and am not sure her other stuff interests me.

We have AIC Man in the Box...I've sung it, hubby's band covers it when they have to do extended shows. I have SBI I believe. I never noticed chorus missing?

I have Man In The Box as well, it's not missing the chorus, just the Ay Ay AY part for the singer. They either have to remember it's there and sing it or it's just the guitar.

Get at least Rooster, Would, No Excuses & Junkhead and those will probably be hits as well. They are at mine anyway and if MITB was that big of a hit for your singers, I am willing to bet these 4 would be as well!

I went through Selectatracks and got all the AIC that I could. On MITB, I back up hubby if he sings it, and he backs me up if I sing it.

LL: My comment really was about the quality of the music and the ratio of mens' to womens' songs that come on monthly. It is getting better but still a long way off. I do sing all those artists you mention but I know these songs will never last and I don't really care for most of them. Duffy -- Got all her stuff on Selectatracks CDG and have a few that sing it. I sing some Lilly Allen and Adele too. K. Clarkson stuff is difficult, as is Alicia Keys, and I just haven't taken the time to learn any of the AK stuff. Oh, I sing Kings of Leon, too - Use Somebody (is that what it's called?) No key change necessary, and no gender confusion in that one.

It's just always been the way it is - when you look at the older CDGs, you may find one or two female songs on them, rest men.
