1. You walk in and the table is ready, the bright lights are on, and a bar stool is sitting there for you.

2. The barmaid brings you a glass of ice water as soon as you walk in (without asking).

3. The bar is already full of "your folks" and you hear "he's here!" several times from the crowd.

4. As you walk in, the guys come up to shake your hand, and the girls give you hugs and kisses.

5. Several regulars help you unload your equipment... and it's not a bother. They help you every week, and they know the routine.

I used to get to some shows early to help the KJ bring in his equipment......until I saw the guy taking bribes to bump up people to the front of the rotation. I barely talk to the guy now.

During my summer gig as I walked around I would get compliments from the NON SINGERS who enjoyed the singers and the regular music I played.
Singers would compliment the sound system , selection and atmosphee.
But one of the regulars on his last rotation would always at the end of his song - Give me props over the mic for working hard all night and everyone would applaud.
Turns out this singer is a fellow KJ so he knows whats involved ...still feels good to be appreciated.

I've had many offers for #5 both load-in and load-out but I usually politely turn them down. If someone somehow manages to injure themselves while helping me, could be as simple as tripping over a crack in the pavement while carrying my stuff, it gives them the potential to sue me. Most probably wouldn't and it's probably a long shot, but I just don't see the need to take the chance. I can have my entire rig loaded in or out of the van in under 10 minutes anyway.

At the end of every show I always get OFFERS to help.. I politely turn them down
- First of all THEY"RE DRUNK and secondly -- everything fits in the back of the truck a certain way

Even though people offer to help us carry things, I never let them. Hubby and I have a tried and true method and can have everything louded out and back in within minutes. I just think it's a nice gesture for people if they see me carrying the speakers (350s) and want to help. I say the best help would be if they could hold the door for me. They're happy to do that.

I do get props from my singers as well - even fellow KJs who yes, do realize what it takes. I get scolded for not putting out a tip jar, in fact, but now people just walk up and tuck money into my hand. They're over the embarrassment and they want to be sure I know how much they appreciate me.

When a stranger (new visitor) comes in and I come over and chat, they're always surprised - because I don't literally work for the establishment. As coincidence would have it, last time I was chatting with a couple of patrons, one of them asked me a ton of questions and complimented me on my socializing skills - and how I said goodbye to everyone, the majority with a quick hug (these people are not just singers, but they're my friends now)... It ends up she owns a HUGE and popular wedding/activity venue in the area and wants me to send her info so she can make referrals to me when people book weddings and other activities. It just so pays to do that. I had no idea who she was. It may end up that I get a lot of private and profitable referrals for those 15 minutes. (It was the end of the night and hubby was louding out for me.) BTW, these two were not singers at all but were so impressed by the caliber of singers, and suggested that this venue was very fortunate to have a group of such consummate entertainers.

I don't have to unload and load any more because my equipment stays there, but I do put a few things away like mic cords etc... I always have people wanting to help. People without even asking start grabbing things. Aaarg! I appreciate the gesture, but I have a particular way of doing things too. The most common thing is for them to grab mic cords and start wrapping them the wrong way.

For me, the bar staff says "We are so glad you are here, instead of so and so.", that tells me a lot. I also hear that from the crowd a couple of times a night. Good for my ego.

NOT to ruin or sideline the thread but I DON'T KNOW if i'm loved or not..?

Do pay raises, hugs, thanks, and big tips count?? Only once in a while do they young'ns give ME props on the mic...but they DO LOVE my attractive cohost!

they comment positively on the sound, dance instruction, and filler music, and the cohost, but i'm the sound-guy wallflower and voice on the mic and occasional singer... so i guess my "love" comes from the owners $$!

They LOVE KARAOKE though!

How about;

Constant favorable posts on the social networking sights
Offers to babysit the kids so the other half can come out and visit once n a while
New singers sending FB friend requests (although sometimes a negative)
You start a new gig, send out the APB, and the bar does record #'s
Policing the drunks when they get too close to the equipment stands

1. When I walk in the women stuff money in my pants.

2. If it's muddy outside, the ladies lay down and let me walk on them so I don't get my feet wet.

3. When I get a few steps in, the men pick me up and carry me to the stage singing "He's a jolly good fellow". Then they bring all the equipment in.

4. The ladies kneel at the stage while they watch me set up.

5. When I finish setting up, everyone tries to buy me a drink.

6. The bar owner always hands me a couple extra hundred bucks and says that I am like the son he wish he had.

7. The bar owners wife comes over later and hands me a couple of hundered extra dollars and says that I am like the son shes wishes she had.

Once upon a time before getting married i was loved repeatedly!

Uh, you should mention yer loved when they bring you MONKEYS!!!

FUNNY HA HA HA! Love it. May I use that? Oh, btw, another way to tell if you're a LOVEd host: People say they're going to come back and THEY DO!

For the regulars I get a lot of the same as the origional post.

For me what really is nice is when a first timer at my show comes up to me and says that it was the best karaoke they had ever been to.

It is even better when that person is a professional in the music industry.

Another thing that tells me im loved is when there is a band performing before karaoke, and some of my singers offer to storm the stage to get them off so karaoke can start.
