about a month ago I started a thread asking opinions on 12inch powered speakers and what brand if any would have adequate bass response so as I didnt need to purchase a sub for small to medium venues.
Well I can tell you I am now the owner of yorkville nx55p and they have had two gigs so far. The first was a 60th bday party where the brief was 60s and 70s music. I cranked them up enough that the floor shook yet still the sound was clear and folks didnt feel like they were being bombarded when attempting to talk in other parts of the room.
Second gig was a business dinner where there were a lot of over 60s with hearing aids and such. The brief there was ambient background music that wasnt intrusive so they could talk and hear each other.
That was a the harder of the two but the speakers managed it so well that it appears I am already booked for next year and folks attending the dinner made lots of really positive comments to the organiser.
So I am sold on my Yorkvilles...thank you everyone who contributed to the orig thread and a special thank you to LondonLive for the personal assistance he gave me...heh he always give such great personal assistance ;-)

Morgan, here's your chance to become a distributor if there's not one in NZ. Glad you like them.

Jam yep I am now a Yorkie fan
and Tim I would but there is one in NZ, admittedly in Auckland but I think he probably has it sewn up.
only thing is, the warranty is only 1 year here whereas its 2 years in canada and usa

I have a pair of the same speakers I find I can never get them loud enough without the limiter coming on.

I use them for small parties less than 50 ppl and wedding ceremonies.

For very small gigs they do have a nice sound to them.

well that remains to be seen I guess. I do know that with an empty venue in the afternoon, I managed to have the floor shake and the bass thump in my chest standing over the other side of the room from the stage. The venue itself wasnt large...11meters x 14 meters

Hey Vicki, glad to hear you like them there Yorkvilles, You should have no trouble easily covering the Venues you do, they will outperform most speakers in their size and price range. Perhaps lyquiddye is only doing shows with very large people in the room. I've used them in medium size situations with plenty of headroom and that's with the DRPA set in the -10 position.

When I was on the market for powered speakers, I was looking for something light, great sounding and will perform well on lower, medium and high volume levels without degrading sound quality. I narrowed them down to NX55p, JBL EON, KV2 EX10 and RCF ART722A. I wasn't too crazy about the new EON (G2 was better). The KV2 EX10 was the best sounding but the 10" could only go so far and would rather suit best for wedding type receptions... and too HI FI sounding for my taste. The RCF ART722A on the other hand with 2" HF neo driver exit was just phenomenal sounding. The RCF was also the most powerful amongst the bunch. The top end and mids were very clean and effortless, it sounded so open and just gets better as you crank up the volume. I'm sure the 2" exit HF driver and the bi-amped 250w HF/500w LF is responsible for this. I ended up getting the 722A, about as expensive as the KV2 but hold true to what I was looking for an SQ type of speaker with more power to boot.

Unto the NX55P. You can never go wrong with the NX series. I would have gotten this if my budget was rather on the conservative side with a matching sub. If I'm not mistaken (which I'm pretty sure) Yorkville are also using RCF drivers :)

Actually Yorkville quit using RCF drivers a few years ago when Mackie had control of RCF. To the best of my knowledge they now use B&C drivers, that's what are in my Yorkville U15P's and my LS800P's. As you probably know, B&C is also a very reputable driver.

Thanks for the added info... yes B&C, RCF and 18sound are amongst the best.

Morgan, unless you drop them from a plane, I highly doubt you'll ever use the warranty. Heck the can be thrown from a van, land in the Everglades and after letting them sit to dry for a week, they'll still sound great. And if you need a subwoofer try this.

http://yorkville.com/products.asp?type= ... 7#overview

Unfortunately they're a brand new product and that's all the info on them. The passive version weigh just under 150lbs.

NX55P + LS720S is one of the most proven combo IMHO. Yorkville warranty and support are the best... bar-none.

RCF were included in the quote to the company that bought them for me but at $4000 each they kinda turned them down ;-) I quoted RCF, QSC and Yorkville
the company ran with the Yorkvilles.

Probably just as well Tim cos I had them on the trolly to get them to the car the other day and the trolley jumped out of my hands and the speaker went flying...a bit of a scuff mark but still fired up ok...that was before they had even done a gig :|

as to the sub, the reason the corporation bought these was to minimise the risk of me re-injuring myself by lugging big equip so that one is kinda out of my range at the moment....DB make a 12 inch at about 18kg and I might look at that later

I'm not sure which RCF speakers were qouted to you but even the NX M15-A would still be in the $1600-$1900 each depending on where you buy them. $4000 would get me a pair of 722A and a single 905AS shipped with still money left to buy me high quality mic cables. I thought FBT, RCF or even KV2 are rather cheaper there and Yorkies are rather more expensive outside of the US and Canada.

Anyway... I get my gears from Mike Pyle himself of AudioPyle Sound http://audiopyle.com/sales.html He qouted me for a pair of NX55P and a single LS720P awhile back for just a little over $2000 shipped.

ummmm... btw, are we talking NZ$ here or US$ ?

:D

Morgan, if they didn't check, Yorkville makes a nice little NX sub, which sound bigger than they are. Nice thump. Only 56lbs.

Don't know what Yorkville was thinking but trust me... this is just too little sub for the money :(
Most NX55P users I know pairs them with the LS subs.

we get fleeced something shocking in NZ trust me the rcfs had a $4000 price tag
the QSC 12in were 2500 each and the yorkies were 1530 + 12.5% goods and services tax and sadly only 1 year warranty instead of the normal 2 years
