First issue here isn't so much the cost, really. However, I have never heard an inexpensive wireless mic sound as good as a wired mic. Yes, we get what we pay for. And if we do have to consider "cost", then a good wired mic, such as the Shure SM58, the Sennheiser E835 (which is what I use), is a bargain compared to a good wireless mic at $500+. Then there's the fact that most of people who use them are drunk, I just wouldn't trust someone who has impared judgement using something that cost me a weeks pay to replace. I just find it a bit more frugile to use the good wired ones comparitively to the good wireless ones. This P.O.S. Audio Crapnica that I bought will make an expensive paper weight. Does anybody need a paper weight??? I got one that I will sell,,,cheap!

Like I said before, I will just keep looking for a good deal on something much much better. And when I actually do find one or more, then only the people that can be responsible enough for such a high quality piece of equipment, will get the "privilege" of using it/them.

I had the same reservations you did which is why I initially bought the voco-pro. Expensive mic, drunks etc, but it really has turned into a non issue. I picked up my wireless SM58's for about $250 each....I bought just one in the beginning. It sounds every bit as good as my wired version. Has it been dropped? Yup, once or twice and I ways held my breath. But it's a shure! It didn't miss a beat. I bought some new grills and kept on rockin'.

Hey Bazaa what wired mics are you using? SM58s?

Just trying to get a feel to what your comparing too. If the wireless sound as good as the wired I may invest.

I picked up three wireless PGX24/SM58s (and two wired SM58s) on this group, with a going out of business sale. Total for all 5 mics was $820. And I had shopped around for quite a while. No EBay or Craigslist deals presented themselves that were near that good.

Two of those wireless 58s went to a dedicated install at my service club. I combine the other with an AKG WMS-40 for my party gig setup. I don't usually use the WMS40 but am ready to set it up if needed.

If you are looking for a decent wireless deal, the AKG WMS40 dual set for $330 new is a pretty good deal. You get what you pay for, so you are going to find better sound than the cheap Audio-Technica but not as good as the SM58. But they are 1) surprisingly durable, and 2) run a no-kidding 30 hours on a single AA battery. They have proved to be workhorses for two years at my service club with no damage or problems.

One real nice thing about them, at least for us, is their oval shape. If someone sets them on a table or on the bar, which happens in our trusting environment, they don't roll and fall off.

The same as Micky above...the PGX24/SM58. After my voco-pro debacle, I literally gave them to my daughter to use with her karaoke machine in her room as that's about their quality in my opinion. To be fair, I have heard others say there are one or two good voco-pro models on the high end however.

The initial expense is a hit for sure if you are currently wired...but well worth it in retrospect. In my area, the majority of the KJ's take the low-road on their equipment...you know the type. I decided to go for quality sound and make that my brand. More than one singer has noticed and made a comment that my mics are wireless SM58's. I was very surprised by that.

Four wired, 2 Senns, one Shure, one Apex.
