I have a few dozen Laser Discs but I would never expect a KJ to be able to play them.

Bring em in  !

Actually the number of LDs is somewhat limited, so if you brought some into my show, I would probably have the exact same song/version you have.

But yes, bring them on!

Only have a couple of karaoke LDs at home (several movies LDs) but have almost all the songs on CDG anyway. I did get a pioneer Chris Ledoux laser that I had fun converting to play on winamp. If someone had a laser that needed converting I could do it for them but my laserdisc player sits under the TV at home gathering dust, reminiscing those pre-dvd days!!

I use a Laptop for my show. It has a CD+G compatible drive built in. So if someone comes in with his/her own disc, I use Karafun (free) to play those. Works great so far.

Sometimes I hear that it might not be a good thing to use the internal for playing discs and it even might ruin the drive. But with the costs of a replacement drive (ca. $30) it would really not be a big deal, if that ever occurs.

When I switched over to digital I never considered the fact I'd have people asking me to play their discs, so when it started happened more often I felt subpar that I couldn't provide that service. So I brought my CDG player in and was manually changing the plug ins to switch from one to the other. LOL I had it down to a science making sure I wouldn't loose any time between songs, unplugging and plugging in. Well of course this was rediculous, but at least I could accomidate the requests. Shortly after I discovered I could use an AB switch. Dah !

The reason I went through all this is because I just felt better knowing when someone asked I could say, no problem I can play your disc. It's the same feeling I get when someone asks me if I have so & so song and I can say, yes. It just feels good to have what people are asking for. I actually wasn't worried about losing customers over it. It never dawned on me that people would not come back because of it.

I may not be the most technical KJ, but I try to give my customers what they want. :D
