Being that 9-11 falls on a Saturday this year , which is mine and many KJ's BIG night... Do I/we do something special ? I don't want to exploit the day for Karaoke crowd purposes and we don't celebrate it like a Holiday but of course we want to acknowledge the tragedy and remember the fallen and pay tribute to the heroes of the day. So what can be done?
Is it right or wrong to want to do something "different" that night
Thoughts ...Ideas....Suggestions.....

I was thinking of starting my show a little more low key than usual with "Have You Forgotten" or "Where Were You" and then launching into "Courtesy of the RWB"

Big Mike has got a good thought. I think a short dedication and open the show with one of the songs that Big Mike suggested would be appropriate. It could be a downer for the crowd though. I know trhe places I go would like it and appreciate it, but you know your people best.

I wasn't even planning an intro. I was just going to start the show WITHOUT my usual fanfare and introduction. Just go right into the song.
Knowing how the bulk of people operate, unless they are watching the news (which will exploit the attacks ad nauseum) they probably won't realize the date. I was hoping to go for one of those, "OH YEAH..." moments.

I almost think you have to acknowledge the day somehow.
Those choice of songs would defintely do it Big Mike.
I don't want to "bring the crowd" down in fact I want to FIRE them
up. I'm sure by the time they get to the bar at 9:00PM they would have heard enough on the news to make them want to go out and have a good time remembering and appreciating the great country we live in ...

It's a bit different for the Brits but I would like to acknowledge it in some way.
It was an international tragedy and one of those horrendous, senseless acts which will live with us all for the rest of our days.
I don't have a clue what to do, however, so any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
God bless all who died and all who lost someone.
Barry

I am DJing a class reunion ('63...actually it's a 8th grade Class of '59!). This is a subcontract gig and I forgot to bring it up during my initial contact with the client. It should be discussed at some point. I think it will be on everyone's mind at one time or another. Tthe banquet room is atop a building overlooking O'Hare airport. If nothing more, Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A." will probably be a must.

To end every show, I play Kate Smith's God Bless America, followed by Ray Charles with America The Beautiful, Lee Greenwood with God Bless The USA, and finishing with Whitney Houston's Star Spangled Banner. I play those while I am disconnecting, packing up, etc.
My show runs from 9:30-1:30am, but, I usually go till 2am, since Im having fun. That night, I am going to stop at 1:30, and I have a GREAT 09/11 video that I will be showing.....some of you may have seen it....it is approx. 15-20 minutes long, with Enya's "Only Time" repeated over and over while scenes from that day and the days following play. While it is depressing, since I will be playing it at the end of the night, and it does end with a positive note, I think it will be appropriate. After that, I'll do my normal "American Mix"
I am lucky enough to have a venue that has a large screen TV that I hook into, and I think that is ideal to show the video. I'll be running an s-cable from the laptop to the tv, and the headphone output to the tape in on my mixer/amp.
If anyone would like to see the video, email me at TRBProductions1 @ aol. com, and I'll email it to you. I attempted to attach it, but, I cant attach .zip or .exe files.
It has been checked for viruses, and is clean.

Another Great Video If you can find it.. And I'm attempting to find a track for this is Michael W. Smith's "There She Stands" it's a 9/11 video that was a command Performance done for Pres. Bush, The video is on the
Michael W. Smith DVD "Worship Again". and I was lucky to secure a promo version of this video over a year ago while living and working In Nashville, and Have wanted to Attempt to showcase this song for almost since the first viewing. But the images in this video are mind shattering and brought tears to my eyes and memories of my trip to NYC and a sight I will not forget of the WTC, as I will never see it again.
BJC: This is a must for you too...
IF you get this video preview it carefully before showing in public...
