If Sound Choice is smart they will apologize profusely and do their best to find a way to make it up to the bar and the KJ. Still I have to say one thing in their defense...
What exactly is with the Cavs unit???? I don't understand exactly why any DJ would choose to use a Cavs over a laptop when it's so much easier to mix music on a laptop. If it's just a fancy juke box what's wrong with the plain old jukebox the bar undoubtedly has? There's just something fishy about this picture that doesn't quite add up for me.

Chip, the reality is that in a few days no one will even remember the name of the venue or that an accusation was made. It was not world shattering news by any means.
To prove a point, what was/were the name of the person(s) convicted of the Washington DC road killings? Or even closer, can anyone, without using a reference name those terrorists involved in 9/11. I'm not denegrating the seriousness but just an exercise that people will not remember.

Two things here
1) It's not very fair to bust Rumbolt's chops when he's not the guy who filed the lawsuit and got the wrong people.
2) I don't think you can make a very strong argument for the karaoke company's name being plastered all over television. Without re-watching the clip, what was the name of the bar, the karaoke company and the KJ? Bet you can't name them all!

Trick question.
I went back and re-watched the ORIGINAL story. The bars involved including (MacLeod's) was named, but there was no mention of the karaoke company or it's owner by name.
Yes, Jim Gaha the owner of the karaoke company got mentioned IN THE FOLLOW UP story, but ONLY AFTER HE CHOSE TO COME FORWARD AND APPEAR ON CAMERA HIMSELF. That's a bit tough to turn into a slander or libel suit. I think the bar has better grounds than the karaoke company -- whatever it's name happens to be. Cause -- here's the trick -- the karaoke company was NEVER named in either story.

I went to a restaurant one night and the kj, who is a d.a., said that it was ok for him not to have disks and to have preloaded hard drives and multi riggers just as long as he doesn't get caught. Frankly I hope he DOES get caught. Again, just another kj./d.a. that's just trying to make a buck. He also told me who pre-loads the hard drives, whom I also know. Most of the kj's think they won't get caught but, it's just a matter of time. This guy had the same books as other kj's with the same name on the front of the books. They go into a restaurant or bar saying that they are, just as an example, Joe Blow Karaoke but they use books that say, for example, Ding Dong Karaoke on the front. So, basically, a group of kj's uses the same books but go in under a different name to cover their rear ends. Nice try. I sure noticed it. That's just one thing that chaps me royally!

Hey, I think I have met that guy's twin here in our area. That is a real problem here too. I heard of a kj here has even claimed (he has a hardrive that he bought from another kj pirate) his music was legal 'cause he had a receipt for his music (hardrive). Are people really that dumb?

If there is an actionable offense in regard to any entity being defamed, your ability, BigJer, or mine to name that entity has no bearing in the defense of that case.
Also, and for whatever it is worth, while we may not be familiar with any other coverage of the matter, that doesn't mean that other new outlets haven't covered the story.
And, while I realize that no one from Sound Choice went public and defamed anyone directly (and filing a suit does not create a defamation), the question seems to have come up because of SC's spurious methods of determining who to go after and their less than prudent regard for the reputation of those they pursued!
Lastly, BigJer, you don't know how much damage has been done or how much work the KJ may have lost because the public has been made aware of ungrounded claims against McLeod. That KJ is directly identifiable to the public because of his relationship with McLeod and it doesn't take him going on TV for anyone to make that connection! And because of SC's efforts in Phoenix the names of everyone involved were divulged by the media. I'd be concerned that at least one of the entities named in Phoenix are no more a "pirate" than Mcleod/Gaha are
PS: BigJer, if you were pursued in such an action by SC and your named appeared in the media and became known to us on this forum, how would you feel about participating with us after that? Would you be concerned that you might be considered guilty until proven otherwise? And, of course, the SC matter is not a big enough news story that your innocence, once proven, would be "splattered" all over the media, exonerating you and restoring your good name!

Unless you made a typo there, that is just too precious!!!... a D.A. who says it's ok to break the law as long as he doesn't get caught. NOW, I've heard it all!!!

Would I like it if it happened to me? Nope,
Would I be afraid to come here? Nope. The only people who would know my company had been named would be people who had been in that bar and had ample opportunity to see my big case logic binders full of discs. I also have receipts to show anyone who wants to see them.
Would I be mad at Sound Choice? Sure.
Would I sue Sound Choice? I'd probably be content to have their lawyer or a spokesperson give me a letter of apology on their company letterhead. It costs a lot to sue and how much lost business are we really talking about here? It doesn't seem real easy to establish what kind of money I could reasonably expect to recover.
Now I have a question...How would you feel if piracy had driven your company from making you a good living and providing a lot of good people jobs to the very verge of bankruptcy?
Nope, I wouldn't like the mistake, but I have some sympathy for SC's position that would temper my anger.
