Last night I dropped in to this K-bar 2 blocks from my house(Ive walked to it many times).
This time I WILL NAME THE NAME OF THE BAR.
It is THE HUTCH ON HOLGATE, SE 41st and Holgate Blvd in Portland.
I thought I might pop in and sing one song late on yesterday, Thursday night.
Now in the last couple of years they have had pretty high KJ turn-over(usually the multi-rigger lappie KJ's).
They were usually on the ordinary to mediocre level.
Well tonight TOOK THE CAKE. What do I see when I walk in and look to see where the KJ is??
There he(young guy) is in his little corner table with his laptop with his SKANKY girlfriend sitting on his lap engaged in some DEEP TOUGUE WRESTLING AND SPIT SWAPPING. His hand was up her shirt and her hand looked to be in crotch. (couldnt really tell as view was partially blocked). I was in there for about 15 mins and it was CONTINUOUS. When the song stopped they would change the song then go right back at it.
This was WORSE than needing a motel. It was REPULSIVE TO WATCH and worse than a couple of HORNY TEENAGERS GOING AT IT. It was worse than MAKING OUT.
It was what you might see in a car on lovers lane.
The bartender was either oblivious or didnt care or enjoying watching it(as there werent many people at the bar).
Ive seen other KJ's blatently flirting with custies or GF's or whatever...........but this was WAY WAY BEYOND anything like that.
They took the cake.
HANDS DOWN!!
I get to see ALOT OF DIFFERENT KJ's of all skill and professional levels.
This SIMPLY WAS REPULSIVE.
I DO BELIEVE a call to the owner is in order for this case.

I say you should go back and, if they're still going hot and heavy, video tape them and put it on YouTube. That should fix them.

The skank is probably the bar owners daughter and that's how the KJ is getting paid for the evening.

That, or it was your typical bar skank/ho who would do literally anything to get an extra turn on the mic.
I'm sure "girlfriend" or "wife" neither one described her properly. Guys like that (men who can't get past the 12 year old puberty stage)... generally have the "wife" tucked away at home with a passel of kids while he's out "working".
Thanks for naming. I'm gonna go there next weekend.
(Lol... or not)

I wasn't familiar with this venue, but after reading some of its online reviews, it looks like they've been through several management changes, each of which appear to have taken this once beloved karaoke spot "downhill".
It sounds like a multi-rig company has the contract for this place, and they just sent whoever they could get to host that night. If the KJ was that young, it wouldn't surprise me that his priority was hooking up, not hosting the show.
Your observation that the bartender didn't care is probably correct. I might also venture that the bar owner doesn't care either, as long as someone is staffing the karaoke. But I'll bet that the karaoke company who employs this host WILL care. That's who I would call.

The bar owner IS DEFINANTLY NOT A KAROAKE GUY. His OTHER bar(also a Hutch) is STRICTLY LIVE MUSIC. And when I first covered that he made it VERY CLEAR he would NEVER put karaoke in there. Then he bought the second one(used to be GRANDMA's and before that THE OLD TOWN CRIER---its been in operation there since the 40's. You problably were looking at the prior stories Id written on Karaoke there(over the past 5 years both in PE and NWKG).
The last time they really had A QUALITY KJ in there was LADYKAT(she was there for 3 years and before here-DANNY CHAVEZ--for 5 years)--she since has moved on to live blues music singing as a featured LEAD VOCALIST with the NW WOMEN IN BLUES.
Since her its been an unending stream of borderline KJ's. Plus it changed hands to the new HUTCH ownership. He wont change Karoake there as it would be cutting his own throat. But CLEARLY he has no clue or interest in getting really QUALITY KJ's, just young guys/girls who dont know what they are doing or like this clown I saw Thurs Night.
Ive walked down there for lunch or breakfast several times since the takeover and the service has become REALLY SKETCHY in the upstairs dining room. Some REALLY QUESTIONABLE characters for waitstaff. Hes done alot of realy good remodelling--put alot of dough into it---but for some reason brought in some REALLY QUESTONALBE waitresses/waitstaff making for really uneven service.
The crowd has become primarly young college kids---but even some of those are starting to look pretty rough. Before it had been a good mix of multiple ages. Now NONE of that mix remain---run off I guess. I certaininly dont hang out there anymore--and it USED to be my favorite spot(Danny or LadyKat were there) plus being only 3 blocks from my house.
Now I have little or no use for the place for going somewhere for Karaoke---Ill drive all the way down to Canby(where Charmin is) before Ill go to this place just 3 blocks from my house.
Danny still actively KJ's---Mon-Tues at THE SPARE ROOM on ne 42nd, and Friday at some place in Vancouver. He's featured in this month's PE mag. He'd be a good one for your ASK THE KJ ARTICLE. I wont be able to do a NWKG artcile any time soon on him as Ive featured him before in it.

Thats a 45 min drive "DOWN" (meaning SOUTH) to Canby from my house---I'd say thats REAL DEVOTION!!---as opposed to walking 3 city blocks!!
