To quote myself:
Quote:
If you can provide the singer with constructive information please feel free to provide that. However, if the singer would prefer that you just listen, please respect their choice.

I am working on a check box to offer "just for fun" or "critiques welcome" selection.

I am pleased that we have so many contributing members to the site. However, it takes only a few to make the fun end. I don't have the time to review each comment or reply provided. I have received several complaints from various members regarding some comments provided. If this continues I will have to "BAN" certain members from posting to the site. I would really hate to have to get to that point.

This is supposed to be fun for everyone. Remember, there are members from all walks of life - young & old - experienced & novices - professionals & amateurs.
wannabe - I hope that answers your question... :)

Phill

Thanks for the info Phil.......I don't want to be stepping on anyone's toes.

I'll just have to learn to tread lightly.

The "just for fun" box is a good idea. I don't want to be making comments if they are not welcome. It would help to clarify things a lot.

A few of us that contribute to the showcase have asked for that "option" atleast once before. I'm happy it is an "option" being considered again.

Phill thanks for considering it. It maybe the "pill" we all need. 8)

Funny you should mention that song, Matt.

As for the rest of you, how about doing what some of us have been doing for several years now (in another K-Forum)? How about one of you voluteer to make a K-Scene Tape/CD of each of you singing in rotation. It's quite simple, but time consuming. All you do is have everyone record themselves singing several songs (onto Cassette or CD). Then they mail it out to the person who volunteered to do the project. That person now picks the songs he wants to use, and creates a Karaoke Rotation from everyone that submitted songs. Then he/she makes copies on CD or Cassette and mails the finished product back to everyone. We (on the other Forum) usually charge $6 per person (which basically covers the cost of raw materials and postage.

I have had the Masterlink for about 2 1/2 years now. Does a better job than SoundForge & is a heck of a lot easier. Love that machine for some basic mastering.

Brian, if you've got something to say, just say it! Don't go giving me your snide uncalled for remarks!!!

Now to answer that comment, this goes under the Fair Use coverage. When making a copy of this nature,
A) We are not using it for Public Braodcast. It's for our own private enjoyment.
B) We are not selling it to anyone. The only money charged was stated in my above post.
C) No one can use this for Public Performance, as it's now got our vocals on it.

If you've got a problem with that, then DON'T PARTICIPATE!!!!

As long as the industry is cool with it.. I wouldn't mind
IF.. I had any spare time... I just turned down 3 projects... and sent them to other studios.

Cueball: I meant no offense.. sometimes the things posted here make me wonder.. If everybody is thinking and using thier heads because the whole world sees it.

There are two types of critiques:
1: There is the destructive critique
AND
2: The constructive critique.

1: The destructive critique, serves no useful purpose whatsoever. That's just someone saying something like, you suck, don't quit yer day job, etc. That's just plain mean and completely unnecessary. It doesn't help anyone.

Of course, telling someone, that you think they're the greatest singer of all time and rating them a 10, when in reality, you really thought they needed a lot of practice, certainly doesn't help them to improve. One might think that they're just being kind, but in reality they're actually hurting the person more than helping them.

2: The constructive critique however, serves a very useful purpose. It gives one honest feedback from others, that helps one improve in any given area. It would be more like, Hey, I like your sound, however, I think you might sound even better if you relaxed a bit more.

Remember, all a critique really is, is one individuals opinion. If that individual says that you're awful, it doesn't mean that you are. Conversely, if they say that you're the greatest, well, you get the idea. It's just their opinion. Even though some record company executives told him that he'd never be a singer, there are millions who think that Elvis was the greatest singer of all time! Still, others think he was absoulutey horrible! Poor misguided souls. Same deal with Johnny Cash. You either loved his style or hated it. In any event, it's just your opinion.

On the other hand, if just about everyone is telling you that, hey, singing may not be your forte, well, hmmm, maybe they're right.

If you'd like, please feel free to ignore everything I've written here. After all, it's just my opinion.

The reason I haven't posted on that forum is as was stated by the majority above. the forum should be changed to a praise forum...... because if you dont Praise the submitter, then they get all blown away.

I Know I'm not the next ELvis, or Conway. and don't expect people to tell me that I sound that good.

But there are those here that have to be "the Best" or have the biggest...
and if everyone doesn't kneel down and worship them they get upset.

I refuse to lower myself to that level.
