Well my gig for NYE got cancelled but I picked up a last minute booking for NYE just last week. With very little promotion it will be interesting to see how it goes. I have my fingers crossed.

LMAO I'm ready ! I have a sequin top and kick a$$ boots.

Last night was sooo busy. I can't imagine what tonight will bring.
I'd say last night, Wednesday, was as busy as Black Friday. More and more people are getting the day of NYE off work, so it's good for the bar business. I'm wondering if Friday and Saturday night will be slow now.

Well this is gonna be the first NYE I've not had to work since I can't remember when. Was supposed to work it. Owner still ticked that I asked for 50 extra to work Christmas, that he got someone else for NYE. Good guy, good sound, but nada as far as music goes. So gonna hang out at the competition tonight with friends and be the obnoxious one for a change!

This is my first year not doing a show on new years. Had my highest moment and lowest moment within the last month. Picked up a gig paying twice the rate that I was making before this and then lost it to someone in the family of the bar owner's that also does karaoke. My hope for the new year is to find a show that will last longer. Maybe I got complacent because I was used to a show that lasted over a year that it took a stabbing to lose due to the bar shutting down.

My husband and I were home by 10:15 -- did a 2-hour show for the families of cancer patients at Ronald McDonald House in Seattle - 90 families live there temporarily. It is the 2nd largest facility in the country. Very humbling and a ton of fun. Very successful night in many ways. Glad they called us. (Prime rib wasn't bad either!)

NYE was rockin !

I was worried at first because the crowd was low than about 11:00 it filled up. I started at 9pm and ended at 3am. I did the count down, sang Auld Lang Syne and then I announced it was time to do our traditional conga line to Hot Hot Hot. This years conga line was the best ever. Almost the entire bar was in on the conga line. The conga line went out the front door then they came back in the back door. When the line was outside the bar was empty, except for the owner and a few other people at the bar. LMAO I asked the leader of the line to take everyone around the pool table area to end, so everyone was in a big circle. Next I called out different things for them to do (wave your hands in the air, shake your bootie, yell Yee haw etc...). It worked out perfect because it's a long song.

After a few songs I did the horn blowing song. Some regulars were singing Love Shack, so I had everyone blow there horns every time the word "Love" was sang. To funny !

I have to say it's the most fun I've had doing NYE.

It's now 1:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. Just got home from my show last night. Boy, it's good to be home!! Last night wasn't as busy as I would have expected, but busier than a normal night. Still a ton of fun, everyone (except me and the wifee) was drinking their selves into oblivion!! All in all a big success as far as a NYE party goes. Food was great, and the people all seemed to have a great time. Looking forward to next year now.

I have a show tonight, and tomorrow night at a different venue. I am not expecting much of anything tonight. Tomorrow might be average at best I'm thinking. Will see here shortly.

I'm thinking the same thing Mr Scott. I'm wondering how tonight and tomorrow will be. My Wed was packed and last night was great, but I'm afraid the next 2 days will be dismal. I have some true blue die hard regulars, but even they have to be wore out after 4 nights in a row of hard partying.

The place where I hosted had a nice crowd. The Bar was full, but not jam-packed (as in past years when I hosted NYE there). I didn't have many singers, so rotation control was simple. I started at 10:30 PM, and had about 4 singers for the first hour. Then, I got about 3 or 4 more to start joining in.

At 4 minutes before Midnight, I stopped the show so that we could have the NYE countdown. The Bartender turned the volume on (for the TVs, but he didn't put it very loud. There was so much noise going on in the place, that we didn't even hear the countdown... All I know is, one second, there was about 1 1/2 minutes to go, and the next second, Seinfeld was on. I shouted over the Mic... "Hey!!! What happened to the Countdown?!" Apparantly, the Bartender accidently switched the station on the remote (instead of the volume), and when he switched it back, the Countdown was over, and people were hugging (on the air). So, to make up for that, I improvised and told everyone that we would just have our own impromtu Countdow. Nobody seemed to mind.

After we all had our Champagne toasts and hugs, I resumed the Karaoke for 20 minutes, and the the Bartender took over (for 30 minutes) with his Magic/Comedy act. Then I continued with the Karaoke from 1 AM to 3 AM. By about 2:30 AM, the placed had really thinned out, and I only had 3 people singing. Normally, I would have been asked to stay another hour, but since it was getting that quiet, we both agreed (me and the Bartender) to cut the show at 3 AM.

After I finished, I packed everything up, and uloaded everything back at my Apartment. Then, at 4:30 AM, I hit the road (2 1/2 hour drive) to go to my "Crash Pad" in PA (for work tonight). As soon as I got to my "Crash Pad", and my head hit the pillow, I was out cold.

For the first time in years I didnt have a New Years gig. Nothing I really wanted (too cheap) Im dug in for awhile until I get solvent again financially. I had some big expenses with new digs. I even stayed home and didnt even drink.

Update:

Alrighty, tonight (friday) was better than I thought it was going to be. Had 15 singers, about 30+ customers totaly. Much better than the big zero that I was expecting. Tomorrow will be much better even still I hope.

I had 2 DJ systems out but no karaoke. The first time since 1985 I stayed home and LOVED EVERY MINUTE of it.

Happy New Year everybody,

NYE was a great night. I got there at 8:30 and had 18 people already turned slips in. By the time we actually started, was up to 30 singers & SRO crowd (250 seating). Topped out at 50. Ran about 20 minutes of dance music from 10 to midnight until 10 after, then back into the singers. People were lucky to get 2 songs in total. No incidents and fun had by all.

Did a private party for an over 55 crowd. Started out at about 8:30pm and it was pretty slow. By 9:30 we had over a hundred people by the poolside clubhouse dancing the night away. Had only about 10 singers in rotation but the dancing was non-stop. Played mostly disco (that's what was requested) and it was awesome. 60 and 70 year olds doing the hustle and electric slide. We were fed an awesome meal and free drinks(didnt partake-had to drive) all night long.

The on-going bet with my wife was that someone would fall into the pool before the night was over. I'm happy to report nobody fell in and I lost the bet. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I think they did too. We got a 100.00 tip for our services and booked a St Patties day gig. PARTY TIME!!!!
