That would work. I'm not a big fan of duets so I probably won't encourage that.

I'm not a great fan of most duets, either, but I am a fan of giving someone ideas of what to sing besides "Picture" and "Summer Nights."

LL, that was probably a sub-conscious reason for me making a duet list. Oh, and by the way let's not forget "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights". :vomit:

Boyfriend loves that one but once someone did it and a customer told us we could throw that disc away.

I am trying to eliminate our karaoke books. I have seen setups with just a keyboard and monitor where singers check to see if their song is available. I have googled this scenerio with no results. It must be a database setup but I have no clue how it is done.

I would really appreciate if someone could give me some info on this song selection method.

thanks
Reezer

There are solutions out there... autokdj has a kiosk option (I used it when I sang at 7bamboo in San Jose!)

My system is running of a mySQL database which powers my website, hosting program and also touch screen songbook. With a little effort you could probably throw something together on M$Access or OpenOffice. You would need to figure out what you need for the database end and then create some forms to browse / search the database. You could even create a few private forms to maintain the db.

If you can google then there are examples out there that you can tweak from say employee id, name, address to song id, artist, song!

I've used 2 programs - 1 KJ file manger to get the name of all the files and songs correct ( Or at least the way I want them to show). and the SONGG BOOK creator which will print the books showing the song once with MFG labels if I choose.

Here's a 2 minute video demostration of a karoake kiosk:

http://dkusa.com/video/songfinder.wmv

You can find the software here: http://karaokesongfinder.com

So there is a number of options with electronic books/kiosks - you just have to find the one that works the best for you.

I used Excel with a 'fuzzy de-dupe' plugin with fantastic results :) it really worked AND it was easy although it might sound complex here.

Steps are as follows:

1. Use the entire list - Song Name, Artist, Track No.
2. Concantenate Song Name and Artist (Concantenate is an excel function that will combine the songname and artist text into a single cell)
3. Look for Fuzzy Duplicates (use the attached Excel add on for this)
4. Remove the ones that are genuine Dupes

The logic is simple
1. Concantenate creates a unique text string by combining the text in song name and artist name
2. If the concantenation results in similar text strings then 'fuzzy dedupe' will pick up similar text strings whether there are spelling mistakes or not. You can set it up to pick up between 1 - 6 variations in spelling.

This means you might have the same song by 3 different artists, and it will still keep all three. However if both a songname and artist are duplicated , it will identify it as a dupe and you can get rid of it.

Sorry for the long winded explanation :) But it does work...

P.S. The file isn't attaching so I will leave a link to the shareware site: http://www.ablebits.com/excel-duplicate ... /index.php

There are song book programs that allow you to pick the disc that you have and it downloads the information in the same way for each disc you have. You will need to check older discs as they may have changed and been re-distributed with new tracks.

Also, I use Pilot Song Book Creator which will import from your Excel or Access file (CSV) or directly from the discs. (It may use an online source). You set the parameters for how your files are arranged (A_S_D_T or D_T_A_S, etc) and then import. Once you have all your discs imported (or you file list) arrange by artist to make sure you have last, first or first last (Latshaw has a program to do this also). Then arrange by song and do the same for spelling and THE and A first.

Once your done, eliminate duplicates on any category and print your songbook in a variety of ways. Looks great and email support is quick if you need it.
