Does anyone here feel like hosting karaoke has helped you to grow or change as a person? If so, how?

It has definitely helped me in so many ways. I believe I'm more outgoing (if that's possible), have more patience, a better communicator, etc. It's even humbled me somewhat. I used to think I was an above average singer but after hosting for almost 2 years I see that I'm a little better than average, at best. It also has made me have a new respect for kj's across the board. I used to think that this would be an easy thing to do and have realized just the opposite. I believe you must have a passion to do this job correctly and fortunately, I can honestly say I still do.

Absolutely has changed me! And I believe for the better as well. Have to agree with spotlightjr on the areas as well, outgoing, friendly, patience etc. The one bad thing that has come out of it is, bad eating habits! Because I eat at weird hours, I have gained a few pounds, and am in generally bad condition now. Need to do something about that next.

Sounds like a good time for a New Years Resolution. It is very tough to not eat the bar food on a night that you do karaoke. I too, have my battles with it.

I have learned that "patience" is a great virtue. I am a pretty calm guy, but when I get someone that takes up all my time asking if I "have a song" and they never even looked in the book, I realize I need "great patience" to do this job. I too have become much more outgoing, and being silly or downright stupid acting, was something I had a hard time doing. Most of my very best nights have occurred when I am a "wild and wacky guy"

I don't think it has changed my core personality much. I've always been a bit out going. I've grown a backbone I didn't know I had though. LMAO

I've always been a relatively patient person, but I am better now under pressure. I don't get so easily overwhelmed with large crowds as I used to.

It has certainly boosted my confidence in that I now am able to use a mic publicly and I rarely falter with it. Before, I would freeze and end up saying a lot of "umm.... uhhhhh...". LOL
I know my singing has improved over the last couple of years, though I know I'm far from fantastic. Use it or lose it! Confidence in singing makes a HUGE difference, even if you're not all that "good" at singing. Sometimes i think half the battle is having confidence.
As for growing a backbone, I'm quite the opposite of Babs. I've learned to be a little more lenient and have learned much more patience (I think!). I've learned to "loosen up" a little.
I've also gained some great friends I never would have had otherwise, since I don't go out these days unless I have a specific reason, karaoke being one of them.
Great topic, BTW :)
