What's the best thing you've ever seen happen for someone as a result of singing regularly at or hosting a karaoke show?

OK Assuming we're talking about things we've seen in person, one of my regulars got picked up to sing with a traveling "Vegas Show". Another was asked to be a front man for a band which is now touring regionally.

One of my singers won American Idol a few years back. Clay Aiken was still in high school when he and his mother started coming to my shows. Also a young lady named Julia Nixon came by occasionally. (She also lives in Raleigh). She has sung at the Kennedy Center, and played Effie in Dreamgirls on Broadway. She apparently became big in the DC area.

Cool stories! I was thinking of some more modest things, but you guys are great!

Besides those, I'd like to hear other kinds as well. I was reading about when a host from the old Jolt forum Harryoke was in a terrible accident driving home from a show one night. His singers helped him raise money to replace all his gear and pay his medical bills (he suffered a broken neck and pretty much lost all his equipment.)

Another story that is just a small but very cool thing -- an acquaintance of mine had a heart attack and was hospitalized and not doing very well. The host called his room and had a whole bunch of his regulars sing one of this man's favorite songs, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" to him over the phone. The man recovered and never forgot that moment. A few years later he suffered a second heart attack and is no longer with us, but maybe his friends bought him a couple of extra years with his wife by their encouragement...

I was one of those people who donated some money to Harryoke when he was out of commission. A few years later, he paid me back. I didn't want to accept it, but he insisted, and even used the phrase "Pay it back" to someone else. A week later, one of the places where Harry hosted a show had burned down. Guess where that "Pay it Back" money went.

Back in 2006, when Smitty hosted our annual JOLT Summit in Richmond, VA, he started a collection from all of us to fly one of our UK JOLTers out there. He had the SYSOP of JOLT block her ID from seeing the whole Topic Thread/Subject about collections for her, so Mandy was completely surprised when a Round Trip airline ticket had been sent to her. It was so much fun to plan that and talk behind her back right under her nose.

One of the bartenders that worked at the bar I host lost her teenage son. We did a benefit for her at the bar to raise the money to bury him. It was amazing the turn out. People donated items for auction, I donated karaoke, and the owner donated food and tents for outside. It was heart warming the people that came together, but very sad she lost her son.

On a lighter note: I've had a few people meet at karaoke than get married. I've been doing this long enough now that when they come in I get to see baby pictures ! It's so neat to be referred to as the person that brought them together. No divorces as of yet. :D

I did a wedding in September. The bride and groom met because the groom was one of my karaoke regulars. We were at a Christmas party for our local pool league and I had to leave early to do a private party. My singer found out and begged me to bring him with me. I told him I couldn't, as it was a private party. He hitched a ride with my daughter when she left to meet me to help set up and crashed it anyway. LOL
The bride was a guest at the party and the two have been inseparable since.
They recently welcomed their daughter Isabella into the world. One of my proudest moments of hosting!
Heartwarming, indeed!

Mind of I share something that happened to me? :D

About 5 years ago, I met a girl on Myspace. She was promoting her brother's band and found me due to us sharing a lot of common interests. We had a lot of friendly chats, nothing serious. She lived about an hour away from me, and one night was visiting downtown with a friend. I told her to come by to the gig I was hosting that night, so we could meet for the first time. It helped that her friend was actually the ex-girlfriend of one of my best friends, unbeknownst to me at the time. Anyway, she came up to the stage, we met for the first time (beautiful girl) and asked if she could sing "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones, and I laughed out loud. I just didn't think she would be able to pull of her best Jagger.... and I was floored. Apparently I angered her, so she threw herself into it. I fell in love right then and there. She was the only woman I met in a long time who would keep up with me, because when I get going. I do it large. We ended up belting out "Satisfaction" together. A few months later she moved in with me, we moved to California, and we are getting married this year.

True confessions: My husband and I met at karaoke years ago when he was hosting for someone else. Been together ever since, started our own biz in 1997, and have been serving as karaoke matchmakers since then.
