I was looking around for cds and noticed this CD that I swear I could have bought a few months ago in the dscount bins for about $8 -12 from many sources, now selling for 209.58 !!!

Sure it may be a good version but it was MASS produced.

(The singing Machine Motown origional artists "ABC")

I seem to recall that this line was sold at nearly every wallmart and many other bulk discount retailers.

At least with the rare sound choice disks they really are rare.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008 ... d_i=507846

Thats 8 songs for 209 dollars or over $26 a song. And no it is not all just because MJ passed away although probably partly that. Other disks from the series are over $140 without any tracks from MJ.

Wow! Got several of the series at Dollarama (paid only a dollar a disc!) not so long ago. Think I'm gonna hit up eBay. I can certainly live without them just fine, especially for that price!

I have almost all of those disc set ( the Asian ver. but same song list). I think they cost less than $10 US. here. I am not sure if they are still in production, but they are still sold in the store.

I got all 18 of them when they first came out. One of my ex-co-workers was also in the music business (part time), and he was involved in some of the contracting for the making of these discs. 1 night at work, he just gave them to me (because he knew that I was into Karaoke).

Interesting...I hadn't heard about the value going up, but I have to say that they are fantastic discs. Very nice singing with the original Motown tracks.

Yeah, and the background vocals are the best! It surprises me that other artists don't do this with tracks that they own! It seems that it would be an additional income source for them if they did, but it must be more complicated than it seems or more artists would do it. :?:

Yes, it doesn't get any BETTER than the original background tracks. I own about 10 of them and get to use them once a month or so.

The pictures of the artists at the beginning, especially the commodores with big afros, are hilarious, yet reflective of how artists used to standout with their appearances and how great music used to be. Where is the horn section in todays music?

Is that CD the one with JACKSON-5 ABC on it? If so----thats why it flew up to $200 +. Sort of now psuedo "COLLECTOR'S ITEM".

If not Jackson-5 then perhaps a typo??

Here's something even weirder-

Believe it or not, 3 ( that I know of) BACKSTAGE discs are actually getting valuable:

BS7617 - DOORS

BS9017 - Eagles

BS8517 - Beach Boys

Except for the Doors disc ( their stuff is getting kinda hard to come by on disc), I can't really figure it out....

As for the Backstage Discs, I know that a few of the songs on the Eagles disc are better than most any other versions out there.
