I just installed ADOBE AUDITION on my PC. The 1st track sounds great (music) but when I try to record track 2 (vocals) the music starts sounding horrible, clipping? I was wondering, since my CPU is like 650Mhz with only 128Mb could it be my PC is just too slow?

I have also found that adding effects can cause the computer to slow down or close the program down.

If I decide to record a song with a lot of harmonies or lots of vocals on different tracks, if I use the "Full Reverb" voice effect on too many of the tracks, my computer just shuts the program down as it can not handle it. That could be another problem.

Working with audio or video is extremely memory intensive, and processor speed on your PC is just as crucial.



With a system like that it's really hard to get by. Unfortunately I would recommend at least a 1.8MHz processor with 1024KB ram. That is not just for recording, but if you want to start editing your music, with a system like yours, it will take weeks to do something, e.g. noise removal, adding effects, ..............

Another thing you might consider is removing any memory eating critters from your system. Right click on the taskbar, select task manager/processes and see what other memory hungry processes you have running that could be eliminated.

I used to record on a 333mhz processor... I could manage it, but it wasn't fun and it took forever to do anything. My current PC is a 1.8mhz, and the difference is amazing...

If you have the means to upgrade at all, DO IT!

Thank You all for the advice! I had a feeling since my PC's like 6 yrs old that it could be the culprit but since I've never used CEP or Adobe Audition 1.0, that maybe I was doin' somethin' else wrong. I've tried filters and lower levels, etc... only made matters worse. I guess I'll have to get a new PC if I ever want to submit a sub.

Most of the IDEAL "home recording" pc's now adays are running 80gb hd's with p-4's, celerons, or AMD 64's (if ya can afford them.) at 700 mhz or higher but even 500 mhz or higher will do.

With over 256K of ram, 3 times more is recommended if your computer will take it.

HARDER, BIGGER, FASTER... YES!! WE CAN BUILD IT!!!

Budacris, when it comes to PC's, bigger is always better, especially getting into the recording (as I stated before)

A couple of things though. Don't buy a complete PC from any shop. Go the component path. You'll not only be able to customize your system, but get away far cheaper. Some commercials claim to give you color printers and what else for "FREE", but trust me, you pay for it.

As BHB stated, if you go to the e.g. Cakewalk site, they'll indicate System Requirements. Very good, the only problem is that these System Requirements are only the minimum requirements.

Never ever be fooled by those statistics. Cakewalk claims the following as one of the System Requirements



1. The only place these days you can find a 300 MHz processor is in an antiques store.
2. 32 MB RAM The only 32MB ram sticks you can buy today are for printers.
3. 100 MB free hard disk space. That's the space you need to load Cakewalk.

So the point is..............System Requirements are defined as requirements to load the software, NOT to run the software!

Just a word of warning.. Just don't let me build or repair a PC for ya.. I blew up a PC that my own producer in nashville owned..

I ended up giving him mine.. I really hoped he enjoyed the cheap piece of junk. But in all honesty, I loved to work with and for the guy as I have learned some really valuable lessons from the guy to this day. I still have a world of respect for him, and the lessons he taught me.

I'll tell you what ............now that thing's are out in the open. If, and when we do disagree, let's keep it clean without being personal or unprofessional.

Should we disagree on something, we'll call each other on facts, not cheap emotions. Should you reply positively on this and accept he challange, then we'll have a very professional relationship, from which people can actually learn something. Will you decide the opposite, I will ignore you like a stop street.

Remember, there's always someone in the room you can learn from, no matter who you are or where you are!!

You may have a serious business running a studio, and after doing some background checks on you, I do actually believe most of what you say and claims you make, but never under-estimate me and my capabilities.

I might not have the financial back-up or tools you have, but I do have an ear for music, and I do believe I have proven myself, not with singing, but with mixing capabilities.

Hey this is turning out to be a real KODAK Moment. HA HA! I just went a head and got a DELL. Only problem I see is that it only has 256Mb but I figure that's an EZ upgrade.


I was wondering, I have an RSQ-MV333 that I only use for the mic. I plug the rca cords into a YAMAHA DP-U50, which plugs into the PC with a USB.
I put my CD+G into the CD/RW (SONY 98'). When I go to CEP, I open the session then insert wave into track 1. Since it's a CDG it just loads everything into track 1 and I do vocals for other tracks. The file is a type PCM. Could this be a problem since my RW doesn't read CD+G? I tried to use that EDITCDG but it doesn't see any CDG. Should I also purchase a PLEXTOR or similar? Is my hookup reasonable?

I started out with subs that way.. the upgrades happen swift from there.. but they all cost cubic dollars.. some less than others.
