Hey, All!
I have a number of mp3 and cdg files that have lost their association. In other words, when I play the mp3 file, the associated cdg file with the graphics does not display, even though they still have the same file name. Any ideas on how to re-associate these files?

John
Are the files in the same folder?
Maybe it's not your files but your player. What are you using?
I was getting that for a while and come to realize that it was my player and had to reinstall it.
Some how it lost one of it's .dll files and wouldn't play the video.
Have you recently move these files or in any other way messed with the name?
Need a little more info.

Yes, they are in the same folders. and I've tried two different players. I received theses as part of a group of files that were in the Cavs format (mcg). The mp3 and g files have the same names, but something is up with the tagging that will not play the graphics file with the mp3 file.

What players are you using? Most players that I know of rely strictly on the file naming between the two files, since tags are not supported in CDG files, only audio files. You should carefully scrutinize the file names between the two files, character for character, paying special attention to spaces, dashes, commas, EVERYTHING! To a computer, a space is as important as any other character.
Good luck

How did you receive these files?
If the were in a CAVS format and not ripped properly a normal program will not read them.
They have to be ripped with roxbox scdg to mp3/cdg files.

If you use KJ File Manager by Latshaw Systems it will re-associate the files, it recognizes any differences in file names (like maybe a trailing space that you don't notice) and can even change file names in a zipped file ensuring the mp3, cdg and zip name are all identical, can't say enough good things about KJ File Manager, love it!

Hi,
So you have CAVS .mcg files. Did you test them on a CAVS player or the CAVS PC player?

How about trying this:
In Windows Explorer right-click on an .mp3 file | Open With | Choose Program... | and then choose the karaoke software program to open with and check the checkbox for "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
Or
In Windows Explorer right-click on a file | Properties | "Type of file:" [shows whatever file type it is] "Opens with:" click the Change button

Ok, are we talking about an (mp3 & cdg) zip file or are we talking about an
(mp3 & mcg) (cavs format) zip file or... are we talking about an (mp3 & cdg & mcg) zip file?
If it is the later (3 file zip) try removing the mcg file from the zip file, make sure mp3 & cdg files are named exactly the same as mentioned above.
