Hi!

I purchased a new Samson Q6 for my daughter's Singing Machine STVD-1001. This microphone came with a cable that has XLR connects on both ends. The Singing Machine mic inputs are 1/4" plugs, so I purchased a XLR to 1/4" Balanced Interconnect to hook up the new microphone.

The trouble is I'm getting nothing from the new microphone on the Singing Machine. Even with the volume turned completely up, it's as if the mic is dead. The original SM mics still work fine and a Samson R31S that I had before work just fine.

Ok, so I thought maybe I had a bad mic or a bad adapter. I took them both to the shop that I purchased them from and they connected them to a mixer with and without the adapter.

And they both worked fine.

Not sure what is going on or where to look next... Help!

Nothing that obvious I'm afraid!

I'm currently examining the 1/4" jacks on the old mic and the new. I'm wondering if the additional conductor on the new adapter jack is playing with me...

Looking at the jacks on the old mic and the new mic...

Old mic (that works) is a mono jack.

New mic (adapter jack) has a stereo jack.

Could that be the problem?

That would be your problem. The stereo' plug is a balanced plug, the 'mono' plug is not which is what the unit requires'. Go to your local MalWart!

or you can just not plug it in all the way. it will work
