And which distributors might that be?

(Inquiring minds want to know.)

I had already shared with the forum what Chartbuster related to me regarding their involvement with the Essential Volumes 1-6 SCDG's. Nonetheless, some folks have called Chartbuster since to review with them the material I had already posted. WAS THERE SOMETHING UNBELIEVABLE IN WHAT I HAD POSTED? (as reposted here)

AND... during the same conversation with CB I raised questions regarding the CB Essential's volumes that are available on SCDG's and told the fellow I was interested in purchasing Vols 1-8. I asked about the SCDG's because Lone Wolf had related how easy it was to convert them to computer files and I began to wonder if the SCDG's might be "too good to be true", in spite of the fact that they are available through several legitimate vendors!

I was informed by Chartbuster that the SCDG discs are available only for Vol1-6. I was told that they are of inferior quality to the CDG's and were GENERALLY SPEAKING legal. There is, however, a limit on how many were licensed to be produced and I was informed by CB that they cannot say whether the discs I was planning to purchase were produced among a batch manufactured within those legal limits, or not. It seems that CB did not actually manufactured the SCDG's themselves. I informed the fellow that based upon his input, I was going to order Vol1-6 on SCDG the very same day! Which I did! There was no question asked of me as to who was offering the discs and no reason was provided for me to avoid making the purchase!

Now, if the subsequent calls made by some don't represent a distrust in my post, what exactly is going on? Is it simply that there are people who find it important to post, but don't find it equally important to read all the posts that came prior to their entrance into the discussion and my post was never read?

That's very likely considering that one poster suggested that I/people should do exactly what I had already done regarding Chartbuster. I called them after experiencing two suspect situations, both of which proved to be perfectly legal per Chartbuster.

I agree Jian.

But following that "advise" would lead many to the conclusion it isn't worth their time to try to share with this forum the knowledge/facts that they have gathered. The forum is free so long as you're willing to give freely of your time. And for some of us, time is at a premium and hate to see it wasted!

I wasn't under the impression, Tovmod, that people were still arguing with you, but you seem to be a bit exasperated.

I think, at this point, the big question has more to do with the legality of the DK tracks than the Chartbuster ones. Is there something else I'm missing?

With regard to the Chartbuster tracks, I think the last question was what distributors still had legal copies of the Chartbuster SCDGs. I thought it was a valid question, but not one that was putting your integrity in question.

My advice is to offer yours, and then step back. People will either accept it or not, but you can't make them. And you might learn something, as well, if you have an open mind. If your expectations are that everyone will accept your word as gospel, I think your expectations are too high.

It's all about sharing our opinions, and debating them if they differ. You know what they say about opinions...they're like @ssholes. Everyone has one.

Have a good evening...and don't sweat it.

So, whether it is DK CB or whoever some of the common sense things you would need to know.
1. all songs on a scdg would have to be relicensed by publisher, the reason for this is, in the US, publishers license karaoke tracks something like this, as we talked compulsory, which is mechanical and lyric as c-staley points out, the synch license, that is both disc and track specific, which means if it is removed from that disc or even the track number is changed it is no longer licensed by publisher this is also why for those of you that continue to argue format shifting it's a mute point you are using an unlicensed piece of music the minute you remove it from the disc and track number that the publisher has allowed.
2. Fees, there are a minimun of 12 cents per song compulsory fees, there is also in the US a $125 to $175 dollar fixing fee per karaoke track that is licensed, if you put 1000 songs on a scdg, the out front cost would by close to $200,000 just for the licencing, then you have all the other expenses, If I did my math correct and I'm sure if I didn't someone will correct me, just fees would be a minimun of $150 per scdg, now for those of you who are strictly home users, other than if you morrally or ethically don't want to use unlicensed music, no big deal, if your in business thats a whole other story

Exact fees are as you mention hard to find out exactly. The bare minimum would be your estimate, maybe possibly 2-3 times that in reality as some artists will ask several times the fixing fee.

The question remains for many of the sets like SGB, Supercore etc that are sold for just way too close to the minimum fees to be fully legit.
