Funny, I read this topic for the first time yesterday ( computer issues lately), anyway, we were out last night and I caught for the first the Total Eclipse song with the cussing. It lacked to me and was a waste of time to listen to. I didn't notice the crowd really caring for it either, or getting into it. But it's about the singer and their song at the time. She was a bit ripped, but seemed to have fun with it. The crowd ranged from college kids to people in their 60's. And it was a nice size group.

I don't understand the needing of a shock value of cussing or to have to do it on the mic. It doesn't really bother me either way, but if it's not on the monitor, then don't add it. I'll admit I have a bit of the potty mouth, but not on the mic.

The "Total Eclipse" profanity version is from the movie "Old School", and is well known. As far as "cussing" on the mic, I don't do it unless I'm singing a song that has it in the lyrics. I do "Sir Psycho Sexy" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on occasion, and there's no way to do it without profanity. I don't do it often (only by request), and I don't think it makes me unprofessional, uneducated, or "low-brow" by any means. They're just words. Words that everyone in a bar has heard before. My main venue allows profanity. One of my others doesn't. I go with the flow.

I don't see it that way. Depends on the type of venue. I certainly wouldn't play "She F#$%ing Hates Me" my first night in a new venue but if it was a rough place or a place that freedom of speech is not a problem, I wouldn't be afraid of it.

Having said that, if I'm not sure, to err on the conservative side would be advisable.

I want sing any songs like that, since I am generally invoived in fund raisers for all kinds of kid functions. Since I still DJ to, I don't want to ruin my chances at bigger shows and venues.
